I'm taking a trip to hershey, PA later next week and was hoping that you folks could suggest some things worth seeing in the area. Thanks in advance

Be sure you take the tour of the town to find out how the Hersheys establised the town, sign up at the hershey factory. There is an Amish settlement about 30 miles away in Intercourse Pa. There is an Excellent restaruant there on the south side of the highway, wish I knew the name, it is certainly worth the trip. There is a theatre that puts on Broadway shows in Hershey. We also went to a town that had a crayola factory at one time. Nice tour

After you've toured Hershey, which is a beautiful area, I would suggest you head Southeast on RT 322 towards NEW HOLLAND, Pa. and use that as a jumping off point to see the Beautiful Amish country. I would also suggest eating at Shady Maple [ all you can eat] just a few miles east of New Holland on Rt 23. Hope you enjoy visiting this area as much as I enjoy the privilege of living and farming in this region.

Hershey Co. is another example of corporate america gone bad....
-Nice size Case IH dealer not too far away. www.hoober.com. Probably 45 minutes.

You could stop at the NH plant. You will see more round balers than you thought existed...They do have a little gift shop there, but it isnt anything real impressive.

The Harley Davidson plant is not too far away. Free mid day tours. We drove there but you have to be 12 yrs old or older so our kids couldn't go in. In Hershey, take the trolley tour thing from the chocolate factory (if its not off season). they give a tour with nice acting skits explaining the history. A little corny but worht it. The amusement park is pretty much a rip off. They're trying to put too much in too little space. I'm not too much into the amish thing. i don't need to stare at how others live, but there's plenty of that too. Be advised, most tours of any thing are pretty much done at 2:00 pm. We went in 89 for honey moon and the factory store was exactly that, offering bargains on chocolate items, and bulk lots. When we went back last year the store was just another cheap overpriced trinket store with candy prices higher than the grocery store. but, all in all, its nice to see once.

I was there back in October for my kid's fall break. We spent an easy day at Chocolate World. Its definitely worthwhile to take the bus tour of the town. I learned more there than anywhere else. We did the whole gammet of activities at Choc World then went back to Gettysburg. Its less than an hours drive and, though we only spent a day there I could have spent a week. One of the best kept secrets there is getting a private guide. It cost less than 3 Greyline tickets and we got one on one with a guide for over 2 hours driving the battlefield.

I am down by Gettysburg and everybody should get here sometime. The recommendation of a battlefield guide is good. We get over once or twice a year and I never get tired of it. Probably could spend a week there by itself if you are into history at all.

Don't know how long you are visiting, but amish country in Lancaster county is OK if you like it. The Bible based shows at Sight and Sound Theatre (also Lancaster) are good, not sure what, if anything, is at the Hershey theater or American Music Theater (again Lancaster), but they can be very good. Lots of places to eat, but if you have a chance try the buffet at Hershey Hotel (of course the desserts are the highlight). The other recomendations for Hershey are seconded by me as well.

The Harley factory tour in York is good as well as the snack food factory tours in Hanover (close to Gettysburg).

If you head the other direction Steamtown in Scranton is a good time.

I generally don't consider shopping an activity, but if you have travel companions who do PA does not have a sales tax on clothing so that could mean something to you.

Let us know where you end up.

The park in hershey has one of the nicest walk-through Christmas light displays that I have ever seen- and you are getting there at just about the right time. Really something...

Do they still have a chocolat factory there? Hersheys left Smiths Falls for Mexico which has nearly devastated the town.
