Scrap Gold ???

Around the St. Louis area there are newspaper ads and some TV commercials advertising that they are buying Scrap Gold.

I know what they mean but I don't believe there is such a thing as scrap gold.

I consider scrap gold as jewelry or coins that have no meaning to a person or a person doesn't know the value of gold!! Or they sell the gold items for money they can currently exchange/spend these days.

But then I always did say nothing has any value unless you sell it!!

Am I looking at this the wrong way??

But there is a a thing called scrap gold-i got me a big pile of it out by the barn near my skyhook. And next time im needing money i'll package them up and send it to some anamanus company i saw on TV and hope that sooner or later my check for thousands of dollars shows up

On august 14, 1532, Franco Pizzaro and 137 men stumbled upon the richest empire in South America and plundered it for the next 12 years.

They saw gold in the form of idols and rings and other jewelry by the millions of pounds, of which they considered to be scrap gold.

Scrap gold, to the Spanish, meant that there was no intrinsic value to them in their form. Of course, gold is gold, but the priceless sacraments of the empire were melted down into bricks to pay off a ransom for the life of King Atawallpa.

In other words, gold in the form of a ring is probably worth less to someone than gold as a raw material.

Having certified raw gold is better than taking someone's word for a ring that looks like gold.

the word "scrap" is only scrap in the eyes of the beholder.
one man's junk is an other man's treasure.

Dental gold is one form of scrap gold.
I had a crown replaced a couple of years ago and sold the old one.
Also a piece of jewlery that was damaged or broken beyond repair would have some value as scrap gold.

That is my thought also!

When I was younger I remember seeing a movie (don't know the name of the movie) but our astronauts went into the future thousands of years and took gold with them. When they got where they were going they fought over the gold and died. Other people who were already there before us found our astronauts and they couldn't believe that we still valued gold. Other things must of been a lot more important than gold in the movie.

My uncle was an undertaker. When he was in mortuary school he "liberated" quite a few gold teeth. They stayed in an old dresser drawer at my grandmothers house for about 40 years. A few years ago his son asked for them so we gave them to him. Kinda morbid actually, but I saw them first hand.

My grand father had a pawn shop back in the 60's. After his death we were going through the old warehouse and found a cigar box of old gold teeth and dental plates. These buyers on TV are paying pennies on the dollar for your unused gold and selling it for for a fortune. They buy and sell by the weight and any diamonds they get a basically free. If you deal with them, you are getting ripped off.

There is no scrap gold. Any jewelry can be repaired by competent goldsmith. How do you know these TV peddlers ever send you anything. Appraise and price everything you sell. Never be sorry. Guns, gold, silver, coins, cars, furniture, house, property. All go up in value if properly cared for. Go price a new one before you are suckered in. Including reverse mortgage. They will give you 50% or less and take their time paying you. There is a fixed amount-not payments for life like they advertise. Yes you can live there till you die unless you go in nursing home. Yes you make repairs, pay taxes, maintenance. Check it out, Please.

"I can't believe my old jewelry was worth so much"

Economic worries + gullible people = con artists

"There's a sucker born every minute"
