Way off topic. Why dont fast food joints

Like McD"s, Burger King and the like, offer brats or hot dogs. Most younger kids seem to prefer hot dog in a bun over a burger till they get older. You"d think it would be a pretty economical offer with some decent profit potential. Brats are popular all over and with all the special varieties you"d think they could have a monthly feature, and it would sell, nice electric or flame broiled brats or hot dogs on a bun. Easy to eat. Strange post I know, but I my mind was churning food this am while I am prepping the barn for flock load out, and was thinking about lunch and that McD"s is only a couple miles away from where I have to pick up a wagon later today. I love burgers, but dont ya think any kind of weiner would sell good too? Hey- I posted OT, and actually ya cant get brats and weiners with out critters and tractors, right? Well, back to the barn.

I love hotdogs, but they"re not very healthy. Sonic and Dairy Queens have the wonderful foot long coneys with cheese and onions. Just one problem, they"re impossible to eat without getting some on you and require finger licking, so be sure whoever you"re with isn"t a manners freak.

I agree that some of the other fast food chains, Whataburger, etc. should add HD"s. I would certainly order one.

I gotta quit this, its making me hungry and there"s no place around where I work that has HDs.

The McDonalds here in the Des Moines area had brats a few years ago. It must have been a test market or some thing because they weren't around long. As I recall they were very good. I wish they would have stayed around.

Lincoln had it right. McD's had brats and they were tasty. People seem to like those McRibs...why not a McDog or McBrat? I wonder if they're harder to cook or if it requires more equipment that they don't want to invest in. Dunno. Damn it, now I'm craving a Whopper.

Yuk!! Hotdogs made from eyes, ears and noses and all other crap from the floor.

Home made lean Hamburger, YES. hamburger joints hamburger look like brain matter. Tried them twice, both times i puked them in the gutter within 15 min. How can people eat that junk.

Friend of mine used to work in a place that processed animals for baloney, hot dogs, potted meat, viennas, etc. Because of it, He ABSOLUTELY will not eat any of the above..............

I wonder about the processing costs of brats being so much more than making burgers, so it must be a economic consideration, I am in Michigan and never have seen them at the major fast food stores but I have had my processor make hot dogs for me and they charge $2.26 a pound to make dogs, and that charge is above and beyond the regular slaughter charges.

As Nancy pointed out they aren't very healthy. Lots of nitrates in them as best I remember.

Since they are thicker than burgers it takes more heat and/or longer heat to cook out the nasty ills from any contaminated meat so more chance for illness.

McD"s has a varied menu.
Ft long dogs at one location in Toronto.
Lobster rolls in the North East US.
Spam in the pacific islands.

Many years ago I was watching one of those TV talk shows and they had Ol'Crock on there and all he could say was "I don't give a dam what it tastes like as long as its served in a clean place."

Turned me off Macs for life.

So.. I will assume you have eggs in the morning also? Sorry, my dad always used that line. He said there is alot of meat that is kept 1/4" away from the manure the critter is a laying in.

Iv'e eaten dog meat once and lived so I can eat alot of food others don't. Yet the eye balls etc are over the edge for me as well, but I still love hot dogs.

I haven't been in a McDonalds since my brother-in-law and I both got food poisoning from the one along the Interstate in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

A couple of days later, I was still so wiped out I went to our doctor to see if he could give me something to perk me up. He started telling me what McDonalds puts in their hamburger and I like to got sick all over again in his office.

That was like 22 years ago.

Chicago area has Portillo's; HDs, brats, Polish,etc.. You can't get into them while across the streets are the MCDs, BKs that do a fair trade. Nothing like a Maxwell street Polish with mustard and grilled onions,YUM.

My Father went to a snooty restaurant once....
Maitrade pranced around and presented the menu with a glowing report of the Chef's special.
The dish's name was French and Father after insisting on hearing the translation. Stated he was not eating the brains or anything else out of an animals head.
Later the waiter asked what he wanted instead. Dad then asked for eggs.

The other day I couldn't get a regular size coney at Sonic in the meal deal but they gave me one with fries and a drink.
I usually get the foot long but didn't have a daughter around right then to eat the other half!
Reminded me and the wife of several episodes at McDonalds over a large water/ice....only free in the small size...like sip-size!

I hauled lots of Johnsonville Brats for McDonalds, but I havent driven over the road since 2005.

The company that made the Johnsonville Brats might be out of business or something.Seems like they had just been sold when I hauled them.

These companies any more are here today gone tomorrow. If they are in a union state they get bought and moved to a right to work state.Next they run off all the Americans working there and bring in Mexicans, and after that quality probably goes down. Before its all taken over by Mexicans they cut the rate to haul it to where only the big crooked truck companies can haul it,so I didnt see what it turned into.I just remember it was in Kansas.

Now,since I know a little about whats in them, and I know they taste good, you probably dont want to eat them,at least not every day. However brats are probably a lot choicer cuts than hot dogs,at least most of the ingredients.Besides that they have lots of artery clogging things in them too.If they served them all the time a bunch of thier regular customers would probably have a heart attack.

We've got Sonic and Wienershnitzel (sp?) for hot dogs.

And the only ones I like are the Ball Park all beef franks on the grill. Also, Johnsonville Brats are the only ones allowed in this house, again on the grill.

As for McDonalds and fast food in general, rent the movie "Supersize Me" and you won't be craving that stuff anymore. It worked for us, we may stop by a fast food place once every month or two. Of course, the sandwich shops healthy sandwiches still find their way into our hands now and then.

Johnsonville bought a company in Holton,Ks.According to what I can tell they still own it.Dont know what they make now because they dont have a website any more. However Johnsonville is not the only company to own that plant in the last 5 years.Dont remember who they were, just remember they didnt own them long, maybe a year. They made hot dogs and sausages there.Dont know about now,but I would say they probably still do.Until I looked it up I thought that company bought Johnsonville, but it was the other way around.I dont think its called Johnsonville now,but it says its a subsidiary of Johnsonville.

Burger King had hot dogs for many years. I work for a BK franchise that owns 122 locations. We were closing down one corporate office here in GR michigan and found a few of the old menu boards. They had several hot dog options as well as shrimp baskets. It amazed me the things that they used to serve.

Culvers offers a hot dog in their kiddie meals. Also grilled cheese sandwiches.

We like the kids meals because the kids get a dish of ice cream (ok, it"s actually frozen custard) instead of a junky toy like the other fast food places give.

I have bought Nathans hot dogs for 2.49 a pound, price is up to 2.79 now.Nathans and Hebrew National make good beef hot dogs. Many companies use a cheater 12 oz package.Lunch meat prices are up 39% this year.Saw the same increase in pickle relish.
