Where do you but a transfer switch if you have underground power? I don't want to put it on the meter post because that's not on my property. If I put it on the distribution box in my yard I'm looking at some major digging and rewiring.

Distribution box in your yard ? Is you breaker box in your yard ?

It needs to go before your breaker box or boxes if you have more than one in parallel.

The easiest place is next to your meter base (if on a house) Other wise, where ever your service disconnect point is is the easiest. You could put it on your house in line before your panel. I would show some pictures...but I dont know how....

It needs to be "between" the meter and your service panel electrically- but physically, probably next to your service panel, and electrician can make the necessary wiring changes.

Distribution box is not a breaker box. Just a sealed box where each leg is clamped together and insulated. One line to the house, other to my shop.

In that case if you wanted to feed you house and shop the transfer switch would need to be at the distribution box.

If you just did your house it could be at the input of the breaker box for the house.
