If I was to get this trailor that I was talking about in my other post , Can I take eather the front or rear wheels off and put duel wheels on it ? would this be possible if I was to run into tire problems ??? Thanks , Larry

no. You'd have to use daul wheel axles replacing the single wheel axles. I have 33 ft. triple axle single wheeler. Bot it & ran it with bad tires. 3 trips, 3 blow-outs. Put new tires on, no more problems. Changing a tire isn't a real problem; at least you have no flats on the inside dual. Also, a 3 axle will let you get around a sharp turn better because if the tires go off the road & over a bank, by the time the last tire is over the bank, the first is back on the road cuz of the long wheel base. It was scary learning that.

Buddy of mine hauls sawlogs and finished lumber for a livin' with tri-axles and spread axles. He's had to tain a few new drivers for the company to geet in and out of some of the places they go, and them youngsters weren't any too thrilled about that ditch-jumpin' either. Impressed yes, but not thrilled.

It's been my experience that many single wheel trailers have a wider frame rail space. this is due to the fact that you need a wider space for the duals so they space the rails closer.

I'd think the frame would be in the way; the axle would be too wide; your balance would be off; the suspension would need to be replaced going from 3 to 2 axles.

Anything is possible if you have enough money, but seems like you are looking for a deal rather than spend as much as possible. I'd think reselling this trailer & buying a tandom would be the most cost effective?

You are going to be way over width you better measure from outside to outside on the tires now. You still will have to have tires on both axles.

You'd also have to replace the axle you're keeping with one rated for the full weight that the two current ones are. Tire's aren't the only determining factor in axle ratings. Wouldn't do you any good to put 6000 lbs worth of tires on a 3000 lb axle.

I don't know but I've been told that turning a 3 axle trailer puts more stress on the tires on the rear axle and wears them out by the sliding around turns. I was told to use duals and avoid a third axle. Just wondering what your experience is.
