Measuring a plow

Ok.. I understand I think of the 14 or 16 ..being the space between them. But the 3 ? Does that mean say on the plow. It has only 3 blades total or just on one side and there is 3 on the other half? Thanks you

Some plows are equipped with 2 sets of mold boards. At the headland one flips the plow over to go the opposite direction. No dead furrows or back furrows. Also twice the life on wear parts. But many in some parts are only one direction. To the best of my knowledge they are called by the number of points in the ground, and cut width per bottom, either way. JimN

Just remember that it's like measuring the spacing between two like size holes, you use the same sides of the holes or in this case the same sides of the beams (standards in some lingo). I've noticed that on a lot of plows I measure at auctions that the beam measurement is not that accurate and can vary by up to a half of an inch on the same plow. Now maybe every plow I've ever measured was sprung I don't know but I think that would be very unlikely. I take a measurement of all beams to be sure. ...Randy
