caddy issues

I have a 1994 cadillac. I think it is a great car. Some of the things that have come up are: throttle sticks, and steering is slopply. Every time I go to the dealer its a 160 dollar bill. Does some one know what that can be done to address this problem? The other thing is when I accelerate sharply from a standstill the gas pedal feels like it kind of floats and then comes back to my foot like normal.I would really like to dispose of these issues s I intend to keep the car forever. It si a fleetwood brougham. thanks for your help. CC

My rule of thumb is to tip the caddy $5 for every stroke he saves me. With my swing, they run the other way when they see me pull into the lot.

Years ago I worked with a guy who had a Caddy...one day he was really fuming; asked him what'd happened...he said he'd called the dealer to find out how much a valve job was, and whoever he got told him if he had to ask he couldn't afford it!!
Seriously, find a Caddy forum and ask if these are recurring problems; when you get into electronic idiosyncrasies it can be a real jungle, and every make/system has it's own set of gremlins.

Does it have the Northstar or the 4.9 engine?

I should be able to answer that. If it was a Northstar, you'd be complaining about oil consumption. Cadillac engineers actually designed the Northstar to use a quart to 1400 miles. They used a coarser final hone in the cylinders to keep more oil in the upper part of the engine. If you drive the he11 out of them , you can get that down to a quart in 3,000. They're a high performance engine, and you do have to run them and blow the soot out regularly.

A Northstar is like a diesel farm tractor; you have to work it to keep it healthy. A Cadillac Service Manager on a Caddy forum I visited said he knew the driving habits of most of his Northstar owners, and the ones that drove them the hardest had the healthiest engines.

My lecture for the day.

Only 160 bucks! Around here a dealer usually gets you for 500. That's the motor city, detroit. Seems like you should have Lt 1 Corvette motor. That's what I had in 94 Roadmaster. I have 91 Fleetwood Brougham with 200 thousand miles on it. Very good car, but I have wrenches and use em. Steering should be straight forward. Check tie rod ends and after you replace em all, don't go to quick oil shops. Roadmaster, I had to change ALL tie rod ends and idler arm and 1 ball joint wasn't too good. Gotta do it yourself if its gonna be done right. Throttle, sounds like motor mount or maybe oilcan will fix. Dave You did say brougham with RWD.

No it isn't an LT1!! What model do you have? is it an Eldo, Seville or Sedan Deville, maybe even an Allante? In 94 they had the 4.9 still available as well as the Northstar in some models. These are all front wheel drive cars with transverse engines. We need lots more info to be able to even guess.

obviously it is a joke because Caddy did not have a model that used any 350 engine that year. Now if you were talking an 1984 it could have the Olds 350 diesel or if it was a 2004,it could be the XLR or whatever they called it, the Caddy Corvette.

wow, I guess ya learn something everyday, The only engine I was aware the Fleetwood had was the 5.0 till they all went to the Northstar. I just looked it up and found a 440 horse LT1 available in 94s Fleetwood.

The throttle plate is sticking in the closed position. It is common due to dirt and wear. Either clean it or replace the throttle body.

Well blinwmi It seems GM had a hit and didnt know it. Cause in 92 it built a RWD Fleetwood Brougham and cotinued the sale of this car each year until they ran out of inventory in 96.Very little was changed and it had a 350 SPFI [sequential port fuel injection]. I could be very wrong, so prove it.JMHO CC

I have removed them and used Chemtrol B12 and a rag to clean the buildup of gunk from the throttle bore and the throttle plate. Probably could use acetone or lacquer thinner or even paint remover if you don't have any Chemtrol handy. Check for loose shaft bushings that allow the plate to wedge or stick in the bore. Not much you can do for worn shaft and bushings other than replacement.

THANKS geewhizz I dont know what I did before I came on this forum. Now if some one can tell me how to fix my "LAZYBOY" I can have a more than successful week. THats b4 I drop some thing into the intake manifold. I really do appreciate the vast store of knowledge that can be displayed here on this forum.
