Lost Tractors

Just wondering if anyone has realized how many old tractors were lost to crushers when scrap metal was so high? I was wandering around the forum looking at pictures and saw a good number that appeared to be in scrap yards. I rent an area to park our demolition equipment right next to a salvage yard. The owner is a good friend. We regularly work around the yard and when metal was so high you would not believe the things that would come in there. I convinced him to save most of the tractors and equipment for resale. I ended up with a 600 ford and a 2000 industrial. It is unbelievable the things that people throw away. It just makes me sad to think of all those tractors that were not saved....I had the man on the scales looking out for another 600 so he calls me one day saying they had one just come in. When I got there the next day to look, it turned out to be an 8600 with the panel that had the 8 missing.

Oh, yes, during that time, i scrapped some old lawn mowers, and a lot of scrap i had laying around! No lawn tractors, except for really bad ones.
But as you say--a lot of good stuff went to China, that should not have been scrapped!
Shortly after WW II, and when i was home from the war, i drove past a local scrap yard, and i could see 2 really nice steam tractors in the yard, being cut up for scrap! I wasn't able to have one at home, even if i could have bought one, but i guess they dropped them on Korea, or Viet nam, later, in some form!

I guess it takes a blind eye to run or work in a scrap yard . Every time I hauled a load in which really was scrap I could have taken two load home with me but they would`nt talk about selling . It was a one way outfit .

Just think about all the cars and junk that got put in the bottom of the rivers during the 60's for the (Beautify America) crusade by old Lady Bird Johnson. Like the snake river for one.

its hard to see that happen if i had a scrap yard i would go broke fast because i just couldnt bear to part with "all that good stuff" if you get 3 old tractors or old pickups you could probably make 1 good runner out of them, shoot i have a old ih manure spreader that came with the place its missing all the id so i dont know what number it it and its missing a bunch of stuff, mostly chains and the 4 bladed cog on the right wheel but i keep it because i figure i'll happen accross another one someday or figure out something to use it for got a bunch more stuff, im proud to say during the recent scrap rush not 1 thing left here lol
