A few days ago there was a post on the Tool Talk about a tool to suck a string through conduit. I recall a similar thing told to me by a young divorcee I dated a few years ago.
She had a new electric water heater installed in her basement. The electrician had the conduit in but not the wires. The electrician asked the girl for one of her feminine sanitary items and she was so embarrased she was ready to ask him to leave or call the supplier of the heater to report his conduct. With a red face she gave him the item he had requested and the electrician tied a Piece of line to the string and placed the tampon in the conduit. He then took an air tank and a blow nozzle and blew the string through the metal conduit. He then tied the line to the wires and was able to pull them through the conduit. I told her that a marshmallow would have worked as well.

I use a piece of plastic shopping bag with a string, then go to the other end with a shop vac. Will suck along ways real quick. Jim

You can blow string hundreds of feet with just a little ball or even a piece of tape on the end. Never thought of using his idea. Never have had any of them around the shop (LOL). Jim

I don't want to steal moonlites thread but how about a tennis ball launcher to shoot string over long runs across barjoists to pull comm or PA wire? Saves a lot of up and down with the manlift.

I was shown how to siphon gas using clear plastic hose, put it down the gas tank, then near the outside end make a hole for your air hose nozzle. Insert the air hose nozzle in the hole in the tube, but direct the air away from the tank. The suction caused by the air leaving the tube will create a vacuum and pull the gas out.

Keeps gas outa your mouth.

We had a old fire truck tanker that only had a 4" dump valve on it. There was no good place to tap, and still be high enough to dump into a dump tank.

So we elevated the 4" or extended it and two foot from the dumping end we inserted a 1 1/2 inch elbow pointing towards the dump tank. We hooked the elbow to a 250 gallon per munite portable pump that was on the old truck. The pumps are usualy around 100-125 psi.

That took the dump time from 11 min to three and a half. this is the same principle you suggested.

This same principle works to take from 1 dump tank and move the water over the top to the next one when they are side by side to give a reserve water supply.

When i run power out to the barn i burries black plastic pipe in the ground then i asked my youngest boy how are we goin to get the wire inside of it?
he had no idea so i got a left over ball of bailer twine and told him to feed into the pipe
on the other end i used a shop vac and sucked the string up
my boy walked around for days stumoed on that one
