max tire size???

More ?????'s to lessen the damage to my normally muddy areas.my little IHC is almost a match to an 8N in size weight and tire size (+/- a hundred pounds and a couple inches). Anyway, my rear tires are 11.2 by 28 with 10 inch rims and frts 5.5 x 20. I can get up to 16.9 inch wide tires for the back.

Any idea how much I could increase in width and still keep the 10" rims?

would a 5 1/2 " increase cause any problems or be overkill for the size of tractor? Not too much difference in the price between 11.2 and the big ones.

usually no in between here, either dry or muddy.

Thanks, Dave

To be able we need to know the tractor model. The fenders, gearing, and hitch height might be problematic. Plus one size is usually not an issue, but fat tires on more narrow rims makes the tread contact patch uneven. Center of tread gets more pressure. Tread bars flex more, and traction and flotation arre not improved as much as would be the case with the correct rim. JimN

Thanks,
It's a German made IHC (D326). I couldn't find any larger rims (with a quick search). Probably not worth the hassle of changing as any change has to be approved by inspection and reflected on the title. With what you said about traction problems, it probably wouldn't be approved anyway.

Duals or tracks might be easier.

I follow the rule that if the ground is too muddy to hold up the tractor and implements, its too wet to be worked and I don't. When I have I made bricks that didn't crumble no matter how many passes.

One inch wider or narrower than the rim width- otherwise they "look funny" and don"t perform as well. 11 inch wide tire, on a 10 inch rim, today"s size marking would be 12.4. I"ve had rims widened by cutting them open, adding a strip inside.

if you cant find the size rim you want you can split thr rim and add in a band to bring it to the with you want its not to hard to do if your not comfortable doing it your self i am sure a local welding shop could do it for you
