My computer has Vista Home Premium on it. I am trying to copy pictures to a CD to take and have prints made. When I copy them to the cd and go to Walgreens and put them in the picture machine, it come up with no pictures on cd. I have given cd's to a guy at work with Vista and he says his computer shows the pictures. I have copied pictures to cd and given them to friends without Vista and they say no pictures come up. I transfered all the pictures to HP Photosmart Essential and tried it again, same thing. I have Vista for Dummies, 9 Books in 1, and I can't find anything in it about changing pictures to jpeg file(I was told I need to do this in order for others to see the pictures). I have tried to send the pictures to Walgreens online, but the computer times out before I can send large files. How can I get the pictures so anyone can see them? Thanks in advance, Chris

What is the [i:654c4848f0]extension[/i:654c4848f0] of your picture files? If it is not "JPG", then that might be part of the problem.

If you can't see the file extension, then you may need to go into your Folder Properties and turn on file extensions. For some unknown reason, Microsoft thinks it's desirable to hide the file extension.

Someone was having the same problem in XP a few weeks ago and I don't know if 'we' ever got it resolved. I finally remembered how to do it (may be totally different in Vista); go to my computer, open appropriate drive (D?); right click>make compatible. Makes CD viewable on different systems.

Incompatibilities with burned CDs & DVDs can arise from the drive type of the burning machine, the reading machine, the type of media used, and/or the method/program used to burn the files.

It isn't as bad as it used to be, but a person can still run into weird incompatibilities.

I'd try a USB flash drive first. That would be the easiest. Or depending on how you tried to upload them, perhaps just send one at a time?? Unless your pics are really high-resolution, you should be able to do that.

I've been able to upload 10 megapixel full resolution raw files to Walmart, for example, but have to do it one at a time. Their website limits file sizes on bulk uploads.

Or can they read your camera memory media directly?? Or are you editing the photos first?

I sure wouldn't take the camera media in to them directly, without copying it off to a PC first... You never know if they might accidentally erase the memory..

My Dear Wife decided our old machine, running Windows 98 was too old and out of date---so she bought a new computer with Windows Vista in it.. I HATE IT!!
Everything i try to save is either unavailable, or never saves when i try to save it! All, or most of, what she does is play card games. I draw stuff, design stuff for camping, and lots of other things, but when i go to look for it--it is GONE! Or can't be accessed!
What a piece of junk! Not worth the price we paid for it! A good boat anchor, i say!
I had a lot of stuff on the old one, things i could readily find, but they are all gone now!
I did manage to save the hard drive, but how could i get any thing off it?

You can splice that drive as a slave unit into another good, working PC and access it as an additional drive (most likely D:).

You'd be able to read your old files off that way.

I have Windows Vista Premium and although I am not really too swift with a computer it has made some things easy. Example. I can post pictures to this site right from my picture file. I did have to install Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 to be able to resize the pictures.
