Is their such a thing as a valve seal for a MF 135 z145 Continental. A fellow told me this is all I need. Compression is good on all for cylinders. Just oil coming out around plugs.

valve seals are rubber seals around the valve stems that keep oil from going by them. If they get dry rotted, the motor will smoke, especially at startup or idle. The last ones I replaced were on a 352 Ford engine, and we made a fitting to screw an air hose into a cylinder to hold up the valves, and removed the valve springs one at a time to replace the seals. It's an easy task.

Hi Smokeyjoe,

I'm not really familiar with your specific engine but generally speaking oil doesn't leak out around spark plugs. I'd take some engine cleaner and clean the engine. If your lucky the oil around the plugs is leaking out of the valve cover gasket. (thick cork gasket between light metal valve cover and heavy cast iron cylinder head) Usurally simple to replace and cheap.

"Valve Seals" are under the valve cover (also called rocker cover) and also under the valve springs. Unless ya know a thing or two about these springs they have a tendancy to go SPROING and send two or three very little parts flying around your shop unless your face conviently slows them down. Not that it can't be done, just get someone who knows what they are doing to show ya how it's done.

Oil control rings control the oil in the bores, or should do. Compression rings provide the compression. You may have inlet valve seals poor or you just may have worn out guides as well.

If the engine has been re-rung in old pistons and worn bore, it may have reasonable compression but 'oil pump' due to sloppy ring fit in the grooves, or oval bores etc.

If it was the fellow who sold it to you, who said that - well, he might be right or just spinning you a sales pitch. Depends whether he was being an engineer or a salesman at the time.

easy task - YES if you don't accidently knock air hose loose during the job

if you also forgot to lock piston at top of cylinder the valve then drops into the cylinder and you get to pull the head anyway

I don't have an answer for you, but you should post this question on the Massey Ferguson/Massey Harris (MF MH) forum site here, better than this general Tractor Talk forum. There are many experts and former MF mechanics over there. The 135 is a good tractor and still plentiful parts. Do a search for MF 135 on the MF forum site and you'll see hundreds of hits, as there are many MF 135s still in use.
Good Luck
