I bought a Yamaha Quad today as a fixer upper and when it staarts it backfires thru the carb. Would this be caused by a dirty carb or would it mean that the valves need to be adjusted. Thanks Ivan

It could also be that the carb is too lean or has a vacuum leak. It could also be improper timing. JimN

I found the problem. The old saying keep it simple comes to mind. All it was is a clamp was missing on the boot between the carb and engine. Run great now. Thanks for all your help.
