720 diesel only hitting on 1

i bought a non running 720 diesel last fall and have been tinkering with it. today i got it to start but it will fire on both for about 15 seconds and then only hit on 1. then if you idle it down and then throttle back up real fast it will fire on both when accelerating but then only fire on 1 after. i pulled the vlave cover and there are no stuck valves. somone told me that the one injector could be vapor locking so i blew out the lines and it still did the same thing. is it a bad pump? any help would be apreciated!
TIA

Don't know any thing about this, but did you check the valves gaps. It seems to indicate fuel is not reaching the cylinder but when you give it plenty it works, have you disconnected the lines on the pump [if possible] and turned it over to observe what the pump is doing,?Any wasps in your area.
This ,of course, may indicate the first 6 words are true.

You might want to pull the injectors and have them overhauled. If it is like most other original 720's, it will we completely wore out and the injector spray patterns won't be right. Prolly need new tips. Also you will need to check the rack and make sure the injector pumps are timed properly. Is there fuel in the motor oil? Could be a cracked line. The JD manual gives an excellent trouble shooting section. You could have low compression on that cylinder-broken rings, cracked piston etc. Mine had all of these things wrong with it. woodvue

Don't know about a 720...but I had the same problem on an 820. Only I had fuel in the oil. Turned out to be a cracked injector line under the valve cover.

what would happen if you switched the injectors around, see if the same cylinder is missing, that would rule out the injector itself? just a thought. bill m.
