OT Teflon Tape Question?

I started to install my in floor heat valves and what not last night and I had doped up and tightned the threaded connections first. Well When I went to solder the copper pipe by the threaded connections it melted away all my pipe thread compound. Would Teflon tape melt as well?

I havent sweated copper line much but when I have I remove the valve stem and guts of the valve before putting heat to it so as not melt anything. I would think that teflon tape would melt or leak if heat were applied to it.

Hick-From-Hell... how is hell ??????????
I think Teflon tape would melt away,,, just like it does in hell...

Others were right. Solder first, then assemble, unless you're far enough away from a threaded fitting so heat isn't an issue.

Doesn't matter if it melts away, the Teflon isn't there to seal the threads, it's there to lubricate them so they can seal. But, if it bothers you, just sweat first.

one other thing teflon tape when burned can release toxic fumes always do all heating and sweating first

If both or all fittings are copper you shouldn't need any pipe dope. Copper seals itself fairly good just by tightening it. Unless there is some kind of chemical reaction involved you can take that joint apart years from now without too much trouble.
