Hi folks,, I have a continental f162 that was working fine but refused to start now...I traced problem to foot long shaft coming up center of engine that turns distributor...pin on distributor shaft is still there( no such luck being that) Is the distributor turned by oil pump ? Any hints would be greatly aprecciated,,,thks engine is still turning over fine

I have an F226 six cylinder and the distributor turns the oil pump. Whats wrong with your foot long shaft?

Was the distributor turning when the engine was turning?

Your pin that holds the gear on the dist shaft may be sheared but look good. Try to drive out the pin, or turn the gear while holding the shaft and see if the gear turns or slips on the shaft of the distributor. if that little pin is sheared you will probably have to take the distributor all apart and see why the pin sheared. I've seen distributors lock up from lack of oil.

I had work done to an F124 Continental and the distributor shaft is driven off cam shaft. There is a gear in the middle of the cam shaft that mates with the gear on the bottom of the shaft.

Hope this helps

the distributor is free,,, and pin was no problem,,, the shaft i was refering to is inside engine...has a spot for pin to connect to on top and bottom of shaft is slottet to mess with a gear inside engine... this shaft comes right out and slides back in but what ever was turning it down inside engine is not working ,,,When you turn engine over this shaft has no movement at all
thks for replys

Stick that shaft back in there. And take something put it in that slot and see if you can turn it with say an 8 inch cresent wrench. Also remeber that shaft is offset when you go back together. Questions?
