It could be a attachment that you can put the trip rope on that would hold it but if the implement came unhooked the rope would come loose with out hurting anything.
Some people would tie the rope to the spring under the seat for ease of grabbing it when they wanted to lift the plow or drill but with disastrous results if the imp came unhooked.

Goes thru a hole in the tractor seat and the plows trip rope attaches to wire loop, then if you hit a rock and the plow disconnects from tractor the rope will slip out of the wire loop instead of pulling the seat from the tractor which would be the case if you tied the rope directly to the seat. At least that's my guess.

You are right. We had one like that. You slip the spring part from the other section. Place that part on top of one of the holes in the seat of the tractor and insert the spring back into the small hole. Then attach the trip rope to a small metal ring and push the ring into the spring item. It makes it easy to unhitch, and is a break-away when the plow's hitch unlatches due to the plow hitting a rock.

Yah, I can relate to this item my brother used to hard connect the trip rope to the tractor seat spring of our M Farmall which was a wakeup call hitting a rock on our 3-14 mechanical plow.I usually connected it to a piece of baling wire in a U shape so it just popped out.

Thank for the help in identifing the item.
makes sencse now as it was atached to seat as described in posts.
