I always enjoy the pics!

Now a couple of questions - what is the thing on the planter that is sticking up in the air? The box with all the lights on the dash - is that an indicator of how much seed you have in the planter?

Those are markers on the planter. When lowered it shows the driver where to drive on the next round to keep the row width uniform. you only use one side at a time. As for the box on the dash with all the lites, it's a seed monitor, let the driver know rate of seed being planted and that each row on the planter is working properly

I hear you there, everyone has their stuff ready to go. Worked on everything we can in the shop.

I've got a feeling it won't be dry enough here until I get back home from vacation after Memorial day. We're hoping to start chopping hay around the first week of June. Knowing my luck it'll all be ready to go at once...

Next week I'm laid off so I'll be home on the farm fixing more stuff and getting ready to go. Hopefully the steel for the Gehl wagon comes in next week. I dropped off a short shaft and the double sprocket that drives the cross conveyor and the rest of the wagon today at the gear shop I used to work at. Said he'd probably have it done tomorrow. Might work on a few other jobs that I'll have to bring in to work just to use a machine or 2.

Perfect match.Snorts a little up steep hills(heavy planter),but mostly plays with it.I usually run in 4th over.

Hi Nancy.Just to add to what lefty said,If you look at the pic from inside the tractor, you can see the marker row that I line up with the radiator cap.

Also, the seed monitor lights flash every time a seed falls down the seed tube and goes past an eye in tube. All light combined, about 1,500 times in less than 30 sec.If seed stops dropping down the tube,an ear piercing alarm goes off.

Ahhh, I see. The "guide" makes a mark on the ground and you follow that mark (looks like the tractor is centered over it). Which guide you use depends on which way you turn.

Cool. I like learning about farming.

James asked me a while back if I wanted to finish my degree. I told him yes, but the problem was I would like a degree in ag, specifically pasture management. There aren't any colleges close that offer those classes in the evenings and I can't afford to quit my job to go to school.

I haven't seen dust since last summer. BTW it's still raining, and the bugs were out when we still had snowbanks here no more than 3 weeks ago........

Ironic, Nancy asked those questions, same ones I had a few weeks ago, though I kinda knew what the markers were for. I just got a crash course on a 7000 JD planter, also repaired and re-set one of the marker arms 2x, one on his has been bent up but good, these guys must get too darned close to the hedgerows or something. I helped him wring out the monitor, had some bugs with the lights, one set of connections and had to brush out the tube to clear the electric eye, and I agree, the noise when it goes off is ear piercing, so is the price of corn seed, he hit a rock and spilled a nice handful out, never realized how much that seed costs, 5 ton of fertilizer was about $2500 too, I took a delivery for him on the gravity wagon, now I can see how you may only break even on that crop.
