I have purchased delo 400 15-40 diesel oil in the past, now looks like they changed the formula. It is now called Delo 400 LE (low emission) Someone told my brother it is not good to use this in a diesel engine, just use Delo 400. Anyoue know anyghing about this? Stan

This is the new formula that they had to come up with for the new lower emissioned diesel vehicles.
They had to lower some additives in this from the prior formula.

This re-formulation of oil has been taking place for a while now since the newer low emission diesel engines have come out, just like the newer blends of low sulfur fuel. Manufactures say that it will do no harm running this in older diesel engines.

This has become a problem for old engines requiring extreme pressure additives. Specifically the flat tappet engines. The latest formulation API CJ-4 diesel lubes have dropped below the recommended additive levels of 1200 - 1400 ppm zinc & phosphate referred to as ZDDP.
The new spec is "not more than 1000 ppm" so it is time to look at specialty lubes or replacement additives to maintain the required levels.
Doesn't matter which brand, it's the API specs that count. If you can obtain the previous API CI-4 spec oils they will have the 1200+ppm correct quantities.

Look on the jug. I think you will find it meets "CJ-4" requirements. This means it's low ash oil and is safe for use in diesels with a particulate filter in the exhaust. Ash doesn't do anything for lubrication, but it collects in the particulate filter in the exhaust. Ash doesn't burn off during a regeneration and causes the particulate filter to plug faster than it would otherwise.
