Jumping Positive Ground with Negative Ground Systems

I just want to clear something up here that I see a lot of folks asking about. Their question is;

How do I jump a positive ground vehicle with a negative ground vehicle.

First of all don't worry about how the battery is hooked up to the vehicle.

Carefully look at the batteries and identify the positive posts from the negative posts.

Always hook the jumper cables up positive to positive and negative to negative.

Remember you're not hooking up to the vehicle, only to it's battery. This is why it doesn't mattery what polarity the vehicle is as long as you match the battery posts on each battery while jumping.

I hope this clears things up some what for some!

But never complete the last hook up at the battery as a spark could blow it up. Make the last connection on the other end of the ground cable away from the battery.

I blew up a battery hooking up battery to battery directly.

Have always put the battery being charged ground to the frame from then on.

My mistake on safety here!! I left the safety part of this subject out.

Yes when jumping any vehicle + ground or - ground your last jumper cable hook up should be to the frame of one of the vehicles not close to the battery.

This way if there is any current draw between the two batteries (due to something being left on in the vehicle being jumped or difference of voltage) a spark can occur causing one of the batteries to explode.

Without thinking this through,
My thought is that you would also want to make sure the vehicle chassis' don't touch each other while jumping, as well (like bumper to bumper).
If I remember correctly, that's the generally safe procedure anyway,
and I always follow it.
Might be very important when jumping these configurations.
Any ideas on that?
