OT: Junk Mail

Possibly due to my poor credit rating, I don't get that much, anymore,, but I USED to open it all up, and stuff random amounts of some from the other into something else and mail it all BACK in the return envelopes

The main thing to do is---when I give my address to ANY body, I tell the DO NOT SELL, TRADE, or GIVE my identity to anyone!
This has slowed my junk down tremendously.
Another thing I do is when I receive more then two identical mails, I mail the next one back in their S.A.S.Envelope. I also include some cardboard for a little additional weight so they can pay extra postage.
I mark through everything except my identity.
After this I don't receive any more from that sender.
Also, get your name, address, and phone number off the internet.

If anything, I've seen a reduction in my junk mail. I used to get two or three credit card offers a day, often more than one from the same company.

Here's a site with most of what you need to know/do. Call your bank and credit cards and ask what form/process for them not to sell your info. If you enter any contest at the malls or those type (home shows, etc) you're just signing a release form for them to send you bunches.
If you don't want calls, first make sure to sign up for your state and fed no call lists. If you contact a place, you are overriding the no call list and they can contact you, but the first time they call you tell them to put you on the no call list and they have to honor it for 2-3 years.
Here's a THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY site and you report unwanted phone calls here.
I was getting prerecorded calls from a collection agency for some unknown person. These preR calls would say this call is for so and so and don't listen if you're not this person or hit 1 to talk to a representative. When ever you hit 1 it would just hang up. Simple form on THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY to report them, most info is on your caller ID. Strange how the next time I got a call from this agency there was an actual person on there asking if i even knew this person.

JUNK

I like to mail it back in their return envelope after tearing it into little pieces so they can't mail it to somebody else.

There is also a way to put a block on your credit ratings being checked by these "preapproved" card offers.

I used to send back the applications in their prepaid envelopes. Wrote on them "DO NOT CONTACT AGAIN, FURTHER CONTACTS WILL BE CONSIDERED HARASSMENT" Took a while, but cc offers dropped off dramatically.

Now if I could just get them off my phone. Am tired of those pre-recorded credit card interest calls. And I'm on the "do not call" list.

I seem to have less phone calls after talking to the telescamers, fun to string them along a bit and give them a call back number -the consumer protection office number- and listen to the 'Card Services' agent get upset when I correct his grammer. last call from them was a month back and somebody there finally figured out the consumer protection number- lady said they wouldn't call back anymore as not responsive- I ask if scam wasn't working on others also and thieving take was down-CLICK. Auto warrantee guy got upset about being asked for a quote on a Kaiser DJ5. Blue Hippo caller said wouldn't ship to Wisconsin- I noted they were probably forbidden to after million dollar or so fine, FFC got them for 5 million so they just admitted to being a thief- this guy stayed on another couple minutes reading the script before supervisor got on phone and tried to convince me they weren't thieves, got very upset when I asked about crooked busines of the year award from the Baltimore Sun and the Maryland states attorney fine- another CLICK. Sometimes it's fun to aggravate people. RN

I just toss it into the burn barrel. Some of the "better" stuff, I keep for lighting the wood stove. Every once-in-awhile, we get something without a return address. It goes DIRECTLY into the burn barrel, unopened. I figure, if they ain't got the kahoonies to let me know where it came from, then I don't need to open it.
