Vermin removal

The grass has gotten tall here. Animals love it. I've taken to rabbit hunting twice a day this spring.

Now I have no problems dispensing with the occasional skunk or possum and the regular rabbit, but what is the thing on deer? I bet my .22 would put a hole in it, but I don't want to deal with a bunch of fines. I've seen two on my acreage in the last 48 hours. Could be the same one, but I think I should be within my rights to dispense with him. Am I right?

Does it make a difference what I use to kill it? My neighbor prefers using a lawn mower on deer. I do think that gives it an ample chance to defend itself!

Better be ready to prove that any of those animals are damaging your property.

The fine to shot any and all wildlife is high. Even a rabbit out of season.

deer is classified as wild game and therefore requires a permit and hunting license. unless you want a criminal record, part with your guns and a lot of money, i"d hang some bars of soap around your property instead. besides that you are more apt to just wound it and it will run off, lay down and eventually die/ or not. even shot with a slug from a shotgun, if not a well placed shot, they can still run a long, long ways.

I think the fine is $1750.00 for shooting deer out of season plus your hunting rights are removed as well your gun can be confiscated.

If the fact that you have a deer or two on your property is driving you to "eliminate"them then you should move to a high rise condo in Florida.
What damage have you seen? I imagine those deer have been there long before you were.
I have been having 6-8 in my new cornfield every night for the past week. I'll just go out and make a few replant passes where the eat the most. Come November though it is payback, and 2 will join the chickens in the greezer.

I do not know what the game laws are in your area. You need to read up on them. Then you decide what you want to do. You might have some do gooder neigbors on this site and you don't want to proclaim to every one you are take'n pot shots at deer this time of year. Don't know how much ground you have but two deer in two days shouldn't be a problem. If deer are doing damage to crops call your local game warden and ask them what to do, then do what you think is best. What ever you do don't tell any one if you do something your local game warden says not to.

Good luck.

Best to go to your states DNR website before asking the likes of me for that kind of advice that could get you into trouble. Your game warden might not go much for "Well, the folks over at YT said...".

I don't think that deer are considered vermin. Might be, but not thinking so. Not here in Indiana anyway. Coyotes, different story as a land owner. Not deer. I too have a couple of doe lying around watching the week or two old fawns moving around in the tall grass and they still are.

If you don't know the applicable hunting laws in your state, you'd best leave your .22 in the house. I don't know about Iowa, but in most states shooting a deer out of season without a permit using a .22 would constitute three separate crimes.

do you kll everything that comes on your property? What damage are these animals causing? Some animals are actually beneficial. bill m.
