I"m new to tractors and I"m sure I"m missing something obvious :)

I don"t yet have a manual and its kind of daunting.

This is a diesel tractor.. I"ve located the glow plug but beyond that I"m Lost.

There is a hole you hold you finger over that gets hot when the thing is ready to start (This much I recall) but I don"t know how to get it to turn on so it heats up. or how to start it after it does. any help apperciated.

25 or 30 seconds. I use 30 seconds on an old M4000 but I'm sure I have some bad glow plugs.

On most tractors (including my Kuboter MX5000) you turn the key either to the left, or to an intermediate position to the right, to activate the glow plugs. Look for a symbol like an electrical resister on the dash to come on. After holding it for the requisite time, just turn all the way to the right to activate the starter.

I own a 78 kubota b6100, to start turn key to left for 30 seconds (engergizes glow plugs), then all the way to the right, clutch needs to be depressed to crank (cutout switch under clutch). Ensure fuel lever is advance about 1/3 of the way.

I have two Kubota tractors they seem to need the preheat even on hot days if they set for any time at all. I slow count to 10 on my older L285 but 15 on the newer L2050 Its harder to start. If the don't start right up with a a few turns of the crank then heat longer. On real cold morning I get it to run and if its still not firing clean i turn the switch back to heat to get it to cleanup an run right.

No offense, but until you read the operators manual, you really shouldn"t be messin" around with the tractor. They kill and injure alot of guys that already KNOW what they are doing. Be safe.

like mike said, also this being a "yuppie tractor" it should have several safety interlocks, ie clutch depresses tranny in nutural seatbelt on ect you really really need to read the owners manuel, ask yourself this ; if you cant start the tractor due to being unfamiliar with its controls what in the world are you going to do if you DO get it started and its in gear and takes off with you on it??
