Okay,

We saved the 55 year old hay rake tire that was twice as old as the young feller working on it. :>) Patched the tractor tire. Total bill came to $25.

I was in town anyway so I ordered 1100 gallons of farm fuel. They're charging me 4 cents a gallon to put the lube back in the fuel?

Didn't check to see if they were packin' a gun 'er not. :>(

Oh well, look at it this way..... at least their using lubrication and your not having to take it dry......
 
Did they say what lube they put back in or why they had to? When I bought farm fuel last fall they didn't ask about putting lube back in it.
 
I guy has got to wonder just who took the "lube"(?) out of the fuel. I can see a delivery surcharge if a farm is far off in the sticks. What refinery produces "unlubed" #2 diesel ?
 
Allan I add 5% soydiesel.

Get the lube back and get rid of some soybeans at the same time.

Sounds like you buy BP Amoco Premier? My supplier gets me for 5 cents extra for it. Never have any fuel problems tho.
 
I have been running drain oil in my diesels for years. Up to 10%. Never had any problems. Maybe smoke a little blue at idle but I don't care. Gets rid of the drain oil and lubes the fuel.
 
Did they offer a discount on headlight fluid and horn beep oil also??? :shock:

Seriously though.. Is this real? I went to a GS last week w/ my tractor and used normal car diesel because there was a couple of trucks lined up at the truck pump. Is there a difference?

Sometimes, I think this whole world has gone completely wacko. :>(

I'm gonna try to be out there when that truck shows up and find out just what kind of snake oil they are pushing here.

How do you put oil back in oil. All diesel fuel really is. Is a very light oil.Guess they are after all the money they can get.

I "think" that everything is low-sulphur now and they give the option to "add oil" for the hand wringers that think the fuel is damaging their injector pumps. :>)

The "lube" they took out was the sulphur. Supposedly, the new "low sulphur" diesel can be harmful to old injector pumps. So now they're putting some oil in to make up for it? I honestly don't know who to believe anymore.

Yeah, this is exactly right. The hand wringers are also right.

Your fuel supplier has ULSD fuel. This is the type of fuel that is mandated for all highway use. By 2015, absolutely ALL fuel will be ULSD. They are still selling non-ULSD for farm, marine, and railroad use, but it is being phased out. In 2010 all ag fuel will be ULSD, 2014 all marine fuel, and finally in 2015 all locomotive fuel.

Ultra-low sulfur means that if your fuel system was designed before 2000, you need an additive to prevent your O-rings and other components from drying out and cracking. Although, I imagine older systems could be retrofitted instead. It makes me wonder if the really old systems that used copper compression washers instead of O-rings (like my 4010) are even effected. I suppose the rubber diaphragm in the injector pump is still vulnerable.

The 4-cents per gallon is to add the sulfer-based lubricant back into the fuel. That's probably a heckofalot cheaper than buying your own SlickDiesel-type additive and treating it yourself.

Allen was quoted $0.04 / gallon for the additive. That's $4.00 per 100 gallons. I haven't bought a quart ATF lately, but that sounds pretty competitive. I would go with the supplier's recommended additive instead of ATF.
 
Go ahead, take the easy route. Life is supposed to be challenging I tell you. I still have a black and white TV with rabbit ears and a round knob that clicks when I turn it that's supposed to quit working this Friday. I'll believe it when I see it. Grin.
