Getting the JD60 up and running and need to top off the power shaft oil. The manual says to use 10w. When I asked at the local auto parts store ef they had any 10w, they said they never heard of streight 10w and looked at me as if I were crazy. After googleing 10w oil I can order it online, but read a post on another forum that suggested mobile one 10w-30 was very close if not identical to 10w oil.

Is 10w-30 motor oil ok to use for this aplication or should I keep looking for streight 10w?

I get straight 10 wt at Tractor Supply. Your local parts house should have hydraulic fluid which is basically 10 wt oil with additives for anti foaming and such. Check your manual but I think you want hyd. fluid that meets Deere JD20 specifications.

(quoted from post at 15:49:28 06/20/09) I thought hydraulic oil was 20W?
Some types may be. I was just told that the hyd. oil used in MOST JD's was a type of 10wt oil. Some of the old manuals that I have call for 10 wt oil in the hydraulic system (the JD 420 manual for example).

Our local JD dealer recommends their hydraulic oil as a replacement for 10 W oil in the two cylinder PTO clutches. I think it's called Hy-Guard?? It's worked well for me for several years.
