i replaced the power steering gear box on my "94 2wd dodge 2500 with the 5.9 cummins this weekend due to the old box being worn out, after wwlll with the pitman arm, all was well,or so i thought, now the pump moos, and the power assist at idle is virtually non exitant, i did crack the lines in a attempt to bleed the system with no results, the haynes manuel i have for the truck doesnt even acnowledge the steering box is there, anybody got a cure, i dont want to drive it and burn up the high dollar gear driven pump,my chevy has a flat the kw is at the pitand the jd is hooked to the disc,so this morning im actually driving my ford jubilee to work, its the only thing that runs today, and the sun is just now up,i cant wait to see how the rest of the day goes,

Sounds like everything that can go bad, has gone bad so the rest of the day will be good.

Let us know how the steering box problem turns out. Next project slated for my 98 Dodge Cummins is the steering box. Oh, by the way, it's at the dealer getting a new throttle position sensor and front seal. The check will probably be $1000.00, but what the heck, I've already sunk $6000.00 in it now, what's another grand? I have too much in it to send it to the junk yard.

Sorry to hyjack your thread for my little rant.Jim

There is a special procedure to bleed those girls out after service.Basically using a vacuum hand pump and a special cap on the pump top ya have to suck out the air from the reservoir without pulling fluid out.

Now that it has ran,the fluid is full of air and foamy.Best thing now is to run it while turning the wheels back and forth for 15 sec, then shut it off and let sit for an hr or so with cap off/loose.Repeat until air is gone.

Don"t give up. Drive it at least a week and it will get better. Just did this on my son"s Dodge and was getting very frustrated. Someone said be patient and drive it. It got better. Keep a check on the fluid.

My Dodge is one year newer then yours, cost me about $600 and now works like new. It took a few days to settle in.

yours willprobably be the same steering box, the reman units already have all the updates installed so they'll last for awhile now, it did fix the road walking if i can just get it to work right, im in the same boat, i got more in the truck than its worth, at least to a dealer, but i figure im going to just keep the truck theres really nothing else wrong with it and it still looks good, all the money i have in it its still 1/4 the cost of replacement so im still ahead of the game
