Ford Tractor leaking hydraulic fluid

My Ford 3000?(1976) is leaking hydraulic fluid up near the right front tire, where a metal arm from the tire joins the main frame (can you tell I know nothing about engines?) It"s not the axle, it"s smaller. I can see the fluid building around the top of the connection and steadily dripping. It doesn"t look like there"s a gasket or seal there, it"s odd. It appears whoever had the tractor before me put some kind of liquid seal. It leaks to the point of not beign usable. What hte heck can i do?
P..s. My hunting least is a good hour from civilzation so I"m trying to avoid taking it to a shop, plus I"m broke :)

anyway you can get a photo?

it sounds like the slave cylinder on the power steering, its in about that area, youll have to determine if its the steel tube itself or the steel line thats leaking, [ clean it up, start the tractor and watch it] if its the line, take it off both ends and take it with you to a good car parts store it should be one of the brake line sizes, youll have to bend it yourself with a tubing bender,if its the cylinder itself it will need to be replaced or rebuilt if possible,

Where you see the build up and then leaking may not be the place,so be lateral, it may be running along the line then dripping, clean it up, start the tractor and have a good look. Can the connection be checked with a spanner, it may be loose.
A photo would possibly get more replies.

Good advice from the others so far.
I know that tractor fairly well but am having difficulty understanding your description of the leak. Get a picture or give us more to go on.
We can help.

Mike,

A 1976 should be a 3600, but still the same tractor nonetheless.

"where a metal arm from the tire joins the main frame"

Assume that is the front axle.

When you say right side, I assume sitting on the seat.

Heres a few things.

1. Powersteering or manual? The cylinders are too far back to be leaking near the axle.

2. If powersteering pump leak, it should be on the left side of the engine.

3. Your oil fill is just behind the axle centerline on the right side.

4. Is the front crankshaft seal leaking, and "slinging" oil around.

5. Do you have a cab? Some have an optional cooler up front. Lines come in the on the right side from behind the radiator.

6. Do you have a loader w/a front pto pump?

This is just what I am thinking off the top of my head.

Dumb question? Are you sure it is hydraulic fluid leak (powersteering, hydraulics) or could it be engine oil, or even engine coolant.

A picture would help a ton.

There isn't too much on that tractor that is too hard to fix out in the woods. Just need to know what it is.

Just my ideas,
Rick

Here's a pic of the right side of my 231, plenty similar to a 2000/3000 etc.

Can you show where yours is leaking?
