1955 Ford 800

On the bottom of the tran. hsng. there is a steel plate about 4 1/2 by 3 3/4 close to the drain plug. It is held by a bolt in each corner. There is a small hole in it with what looks like a cotter pin hanging out of it. Everytime I use the tractor and put it away this drips for quite awhile.
Any suggestions on this problem? Thanks

The cotter key is there to keep the drain hole clear of debris. (It shakes and rattles when you"re driving.)
You probably have a bad seal either from the back of the engine or the front of the transmission.
That"s where the leaking oil comes out.
Sorry. But if it"s just a little and you don"t mind it marking its territory when you park, just keep your eye on the levels and live with it, unless your clutch starts slipping.

You'll have to split the tractor to fix the leak, there's no other way to get into the tractor to fix it! Not a job for the light hearted, Takes special tools to do it......HTH Jim

put a can under it and see if it a bad leak.Best to leave it alone.Fellow I knew plugged the leak with an aluminum roofing nail.Sold the tractor to his neighbor.Took a while but the clutch failed when the oil got deep enough.
