Why would a starter solenoid ( a new one - just been on the tractor two weeks ) engage on its own? My tractor did this while it was setting in the garage. Lucky it was out of gear and the fuel off. I had to disconnect the ground cable to stop it. I checked from the positive side to the starter side and it was of course shorted. I dropped the darn thing and now it checks ok. Could I be mounting it upside down to cause this?

Key word is NEW and probably from the country of not always right to boot. Yep seen it happen more then once. Water can do it a mouse can do it or it is a bad new one right out of the box

I had anew one some time ago that didnt release takes time to get a wrench and unhook the battery as you dont expect it to stick
