Suspicious people............

Can't understand folks sometimes. I replaced the radiator on my tractor last year and the old one has nothing wrong with it except needing the flange soldered (I stumbled onto a replacement cheaper than having mine fixed or buying equipment to fix it myself). I one of them people that think it's better to have and not need than need and not have, so the old one is still in my barn. Over the last couple weeks, several folks on forums here have been needing that radiator so I decided to offer mine up. Posted a bunch of pics of it and got several emails. Have no idea what it is worth to price it so told the folks that and asked them to make an offer. Never heard from them again. Guess they'd rather go without than offer too much. Maybe since I have all the pics I'll just put it on ebay.

Dave, I am one that figures the seller needs to
put a price on an item. My wife and I go to many
sales for "shabby" items. If they say: If you
find something you like make an offer, we don't
usually stay. We know others that feel the same.
Just my 2 cents. Chuck

I am at a loss for what it's worth...... So figured I'd let them tell me what it's worth to them... Maybe I'll just throw the price I paid for the other one and let them counter. It's not hurting anything in the barn, just thought it may help someone else out.

Too many times if you offer what YOU think it"s worth, The person who is offered thinks it"s worth twice what is offered and won"t hesitate to make it well known. People will walk away rather than be made a fool of. If you don"t want to sell it, just don"t price it. If you do want to sell it, put a fair price on it then be flexable to dickering.

They don't make them any more. option is a place that refurbishes. Lat year they had 2 or 3 for around 8oo euro ($1200+/-). They will redo one for 450 euro. Mine is completley intact w/ no rust or repairs just needs the flange soldered and a screw or tack weld on a corner of the shroud. What do you think would be fair to ask???

If I go to a sale with no prices on the items I seldom ask how much things are.The seller should put a price sticker on things for sale.I try to go look for tools every saturday if I dont get what I want one day Ill see it again for sale somewhere else.

Pretty tough to put a price on anything not knowing what it is to start with. I've paid $5 for a Chevy Vega radiator and had a Kenworth radiator knock me for $2,700. The 'they don't make them anymore' is really a hollow statment as they likely don't make them anymore because nobody needs them anymore. If somebody does need it and since you've recently bought one, probably if anyone knows what it's worth, it would be you. The statement about people not offering because they may 'offer too much' is kind of foolish like not putting a price on something for fear of selling it too cheap. Or you can be like my step father and put it in the barn and when you die, your dollarsign daughters can force everything to auction at which time your $1,200 radiator can bring $5 or $10 maybe more depending on who shows up.

Well Dave i have to agree with the posts, since i do buy and sell alot of stuff.
Ya have to put a price on it. Heck i always start high , but in the same breath let them know that i'm always open to offers. Ya have to start somewheres.
Now i have an Uncle that says the golden rule of dickering is "He who comes up with the first offer or price, loses" But sometimes if you have two seasoned hustlers haggling ya got to start somewhere or you will never get it sold.

I dont like to put a price on somebody else's property, good way to offend someone! I just tell them its yours you know what you want for it, if I dont buy it I'm just saying its not worth that much to me but sure might be to someone else!!

That's funny.... I say the same thing to people. Guess I'll put it away until I decide to fix it. Besides, it's pretty good insurance. If I sell it, it's a sure thing that the one on the tractor will get ruined somehow......

Took a German Luger to a gun show one time years back. I wanted to get an idea of the value. A browser, asked me if I had a Luger in the holster, and would I let him look at it? I said I was just trying to find out what it was worth. Like I just rode in on a turnip truck. He looked at it and said, "give you 300 for it". I said , no, politely, then he said "give you 700 for it"
Then I said,"if you are offering 700 it's probably worth 1000, and you just tried to buy it for 300. You are kind of a swindler aren't you?"

I buy and sell a lot of stuff and have people call and try to sell me stuff all of the time, when they tell me to make them an offer all I say is that I had rather you price it because I can promes you that you are not going to like my offer.

There is something to be said for poeple who dont list there price (idiots)Look at some ads where poeple try to sell something..The ads can be over a hundred words in detail and then they don't list the price..So when you end up calling on it ..They usually end up being long winded and waste your time.It always seems to end up being higher than anyone else..I guess if they don't mind answering unnecssary phone calls all day long have at it...

Whether buying or selling, I always like to see the seller come up with a starting price. Recently I had an extra tractor (JD 4430) to sell, downsizing after getting out of livestock and full-time farming. Fixed everything I knew was wrong, had a 29 year history on it, new rubber, many extras, etc. Advertised it in May for 14 grand, had a guy interested in it for several months, offered it to him for 13,200. Told him the ads go back in, asking 14...asking means I"m willing to deal, versus 14 firm, means there is no dickering. New buyer comes today, sold it for 12,500. Always good for the seller to set at least a starting price. Buyer and son drove it home today, 140 miles, we are both happy with the deal.

Some callers from the adds were concerned about the high hours- 11031! First engine, first PS transmission, first rear end. Still burns a pint of oil every 100 hours, like when I bought it in 1980. I have two others with similar hours, same details. Told them- bring any mechanic, do any checks you want. I know that the buyer got a keeper!
