MF98 vs. Oliver 99

Apparently Massey Ferguson and Oliver had some kind of agreement at one time for one of them (I think it was Oliver) to make a certain tractor and either brand it a Massey Ferguson 98 or an Oliver 99. It's the same tractor with different paint and decals.

Chuck Plott in Southington, OH has restored one of these tractors to perfection. He painted it red and put Massey Ferguson decals on one side of the tractor, and painted the other side of the same tractor with green and put Oliver decals on it.

The tractor is in his museum. Here are two pictures of the same tractor. One was taken on one side of the tractor and the other was taken on the other side of the same tractor.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

According to my Massey book they rebadged them in 1959/60. 78HP

They also rebadged a MM GBD for 1958/60 and a MM GVI for 1961 and called it a Massey 95. 63hp

And a MM G706 in 1961/65 and called it the Massey 97. 101hp and some had front wheel assist.

The way I understand it, Massy had a factory burn down where they built there bigger stuff and cut a deal with oliver to get them through until they got the new factory built. Greg

Massey made a deal with MM/Oliver to build higher HP tractors for them as they didn't have any available at the time. Higher HP tractors were getting more popular and Massey wanted to offer it's customers something in the intern until they designed their own higher HP tractors. Dave

The factory where Massey Ferguson produced their tractors in Canada did burn down; so the agreement with Oliver was to build the MF 98 while M.Moline was to build the 97 series that used the Moline engine.
