Coil question

what is better a epoxy filled coil or an oil filled coil, what are the disadvantages and advantage to each type

The oil and epoxy filling are for insulation and cooling. If the oil runs out or the epoxy cracks the coil will die in time. The epoxy is probably less likely to crack than the oil leak, but is better only if the epoxy really fills all the possible air spaces in the high voltage winding which is more likely with oil.

I prefer the epoxy coils as they are very resistant to vibrations that cause trouble in the oil filled coils. I went through 4 oil coils in 2 years before I switched to epoxy and it is now 6 years later and not one coil problem.
Good luck
