Hey dave, Got a pass along the other day showing german technology. river over river. Didn"t believe such an undertaking would be possible, but the pictures didn"t lie. Showed passenger boats going over the bottom river. People standing on the walk way watching em go by. Now thats what I call engeneering feat. have you seen it? Love pictures that the lady sent.
any pictures you would have would be appreciated. I get to travel by looking at em. Any pictures trhat shows up here on this forum, I dearly love. Beats my house bound chair.
Thanks, LOU

EXACTLY. That really took some engeneering . Same picture. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Nothing like that in this country. Just think what that ptoject would do for freight shipments and passenger travel. Wouldn't be patching holes in the roads wouldn't need salt
to keep it open. Lots of advantages with a set up like that . Thanks. LOU

Didn't you ever hear of the canals that were built in the early 1800s in eastern US? Every stream or river they crossed had a water carrying bridge for them, some were 300 to 400 foot long and high enough for other boats to pass under.I believe there are one or two still in use in New York.Go to the library or maybe on the Internet and look up Early American Canals and there is a wealth of info.

Washington dc canal bridge in 1830
it was a nice one but the technology is old and this country didn't develop it after the railroads came .

Thanks for the pictures. Guess there was (and is) a lot of engeneering feats that were on going. Was surprised to read that Dave 2 didn't know about it. guess he's not a out and about fellow.lol. Nice to know people are thinking about making life a little more easier for folks. Was d*m dissappointed when the railroad shut down and took up the tracks in Rice lake and made a ATV trail for high speed riders. Hell they go faster on the trail then the traffic on the hwy next to the trail. One of these days someone will get killed .Just a matter of time not to mention the tax payers expence in keeping it groomed . Any way folks, thanks for the pictures and comments. Reguards ,LOU

Hey dave, Ya must have been sleeping while that project was on going, lol.Lots of nice pictures and writings on that project, as well as other ones here in the U.S. Like my old T.I use to say,"Put your left hand on your right ear, your right hand on your left ear and pull your head out of your ???" lol. Now that was uncalled for. Gotta go to the wood shed for that. Any way. if you go, take some pictures , would love to see it all. Reguards. LOU.

In the Niagara Falls area there are 2 highways that traverse underneath the Welland Canal.
Quite a sight to see freighters sailing along overhead as you drive under the canal.

Don't feel bad they took a lot of rails out here too. some property owners are really upset because some have papers that say the land was to go back to original Heirs of said land of it was proclaimed abandoned by the RR instead the RR gave it to the state so most of it is "rails to trails" that others can legally trespass on other persons property. and groups like the watershed organization are asking for volunteers , and donations to help maintain these trails for public recreation. I heard something like 75 miles from Pittsburgh to somewhere in Franklin, Oil City area

(quoted from post at 16:40:49 09/30/09) Hey dave, Ya must have been sleeping .

I got an excuse... It's about 250 miles North of me, next to Berlin. Beer from that part of the country sucks

Real neat area though, we spent a weekend about 50 miles from the place a couple years ago. Talk about God's country... Hard to believe such a small country with so many people could have so much wide open land....

Dave
