I seen in the corn smut post that you raise several taters . Just wandered if you have a winner when it comes to fighting the tater bugs ? They wipe me out every yr. and nothing seems to kill them !

I have used a spray called Admire for about 10 years.Very expensive stuff but it works.A pint cost 60 bucks but it lasted 5 years.I got mine from potato growers. It was only put up in gallon jugs for years but I did see it in the Berlin seed catalog in a pint bottle for 50 bucks. You spray it on the seed pieces before covering. When I had more varieties growing I noticed the bugs ate the Chippewa leaves last. There is a potato called Prince Hairy that has fine hairs on the leaves that the bugs dont like.Problem is the potatoes are tastless.I still have a few bugs with admire but there is little plant damage.Kennebecs are the best producers and I find seed I save grows better than bought seed.4% rotenone will kill potato bugs, expensive but it works. On small plots hand picking works fine.Small potatoes about the size of a golf ball are best for seed.Cutting big potatoes exposes seed to rot.Dont cut seed...If you have to buy seed, hand pick small seed.Nuprid 2f is the spray you want.Use 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon of water.Berlins phone is 1 877 464 0892,call for a catalog.Check out page 14 when you get your catalog.
