wfe just told me her check engne lght is on .it is a half ton chevy 07 with the 5.4 she looked in the book and it said something about emissions does anyone know anything about this befoe i start reading up on it myself thanks RICK

A service manager told me a lot of them are set to go on automatically at a certain mileage. Just another way to rip you off.

My 05 model did that around 50000,cost me 300 bucks to get it fixed. They said a sensor in the gas tank was bad.

You need to find out what code is stored . Most parts stores will check it for free these days . Lto of evap codes are caused by gas cap not being tight . After that ,,you need to know what code set in order to determine a course of action to repair it . Don't just throw parts at it ,,you may get lucky ,but will cost you more than taking it in to a reputable shop and having it diagnoised . Codes are a cause and effect deal . Find the root of the problem before throwing parts at it . Service engine light does not just come on at perset mileage anymore, they used to on chryslers and some imports . Those days are long gone .

have it scanned. my 06 chevy pickup threw a code and check engine lite came on, scanned it and it was a bad thermostat, too low of coolant temp. like the other guys said, dont throw parts at it without knowing what is wrong.

The federal emission period requires by the government is 8 years 80,000 miles. It does not cover everything. Primarily covers the pcm and catalytic convertor.

I've got an '06 3/4 ton. At about 125k I started getting touble lights off and on. Would take it to the parts store to have them read it and it was emmissions and mass airflow related to convertor. Don't know if you're aware or not, but these Chevy's are notorious for leaky intake manifold gaskets. I think my trouble lights were caused by that. Coolant seeping into combustion chamber, then out exhaust. Coolant would cause misread by 02 sensor. I think it has now caused my convertor(s) to go bad as the light won't go off. Have you been losing any coolant? If so, I found that the 6 pack of brown tablets, (available at most any parts store), worked at sealing my leaky gaskets, just didn't do it soon enough to save the convertor. Took two doses, 12 tabs.

Sorry I can't help Rick. This light has been flashing in my computer but I can't find the engine. Hope it's something simple. David.....................
