Raking Leaves, again . . . or not

Does anyone mulch their leaves on the ground? I came across this article the other day in a pretty reliable journal, and I'm really wondering if I should try this. Maybe I'll compromise, get the heaviest cover of leaves off, and run the mower one more time over the rest.

What do you think?
Raking Leaves?

I have not raked leaves in years. In the corners and tight places where they build up I leave them so I won't have to run the weed eater over them next year where the leaves smother the grass. For the rest of the yard I just run over it with the mower blowing them to the center. Get a pile and just keep running over it till they are all powder.

I use to vaccum them up with a lawn-vac pulled behind my tractor. I bought a Simplicity tractor with a mulching deck I haven't used the lawn-vac since. Its been two years now and I couldn't be happier. A lot less work. Also I live in a very wooded area, leaves are a foot deep in some areas of my yard

i mulch each time i get a good covering..made a plate to cover the output on the deck.im happy mulching them and it doesnt effect the lawn in the green months.its hard to mulch if they get too thick and wet.but i mulch damp leaves all the time.less dust.my arm hurts when i rake much anymore..lucas

I dump a good many leaves on my garden and I use the Toro GrassKing in this picture for mulching
them. I then plow them under with a coating of lime. Hal

Hey Paul. Interesting reading. We just got a like new Lawn Vacume. Now gotta sell our pull behind leaf bager . Cant seem to win for loosing huh? We have been mulching with our lawn tractor for a couple of years now but was worried about smothering the lawn. We just finished winterizering the lawn vac and now there is a new crop of leaves again. Been raining today so no chance of using the lawn tractor till it stops. Oh well, best laid plans of mice & men .

Haven't raked a leaf or pine needle in years. Got a mulching blade on the troy built...and send them right back where they come from.
I put the bagger on it when I want mulch...around trees and such.

I'm sure this applies to most if not all farmers w/ a field right near a woods. The ground there is some of the blackest, nicest stuff on our whole farm. Lots of nutrients and organic matter.

I haven't raked a leaf in a long time on my parents lawn, and now that I'm a homeowner I have no intentions of raking my leaves. I mowed my lawn once since I moved in. Not too may leaves at all, and what I do have mulch up really nice.

We have 5 acres with lots of trees under 20 yrs old, so there are lots of leaves accumulating now. I never take leaves away---just run over the lawn another time with the mower. I've let the grass grow longer this fall, so now the leaves stay in place rather than blowing away. That being said, at this time of year at evening we have scores--if not 2-300 robins--scavenging over the whole area. In checking with neighbor's lots, I don't see the same activity.Just maybe we're doing something right??
