Anyone from Ulster/Orange Co NY area?

I am looking at dairy equipment for sale in lower Ulster county. I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum from this general area that might have the ability to inspect this equipment for me. I am in West Michigan and it just isn't feasible to make the trip there just to inspect it. Maybe I am just chasing dreams thinking of buying equipment that far away but right now it looks like a pretty good deal, worth the drive to bring it home. Appreciate any help.

I'm a lot closer to it then you are, but I'm still a two-hour drive from that general area. I'm in Otsego County, NY. I used to work for a couple of farm equipment dealers in Orange County 30 years ago (Middletown, NY and Florida, NY). We sold tractors and DeLaval milking equipment. Most dairy farms were dying out then; I'm kind of surprised there's still dairy equipment in that area. Dairy has peristed longer in this area of Otsego County, but it will soon be gone. Many stainless steel milk bulk tanks are getting sold cheap to use with the maple syrup industry.

What type of equipment are you trying to check out? By the way, from what I've seen, everything in Michigan is more expensive then in NY. Especially tractors in northern MI.

Are you talking about Orange County, NY or Orange County, California? Weren't many choppers in that area of New York when I lived there. A lot more onion farms and cows then motorcycles. Or, are you taking about field choppers and not bikes with no suspension?

The two state prisons in the area have evidently sold off their dairy herds. The setup I was interested in was a pipeline setup at the Wallkill Prison.

Nope. I worked for Bellows and May in Middletown, and Dombrowskis in Florida. The latter did a lot of repair work for onion farmers in the black dirt farms of Florida and Chester along with smaller power equipment.

I remember the prisons all over the place. Many signs said "don"t pick up hitchhikers" - I guess because of prison escapes.

I'm getting confused...

Ya'll ARE talking about the Teutul's motorcycle show, aren't you??

If so, it IS based in NY - at least based on their website - and the snow & ice they've had around the shop in certain shows...

Orange County Choppers is a lower New York state business. Started in the late 90s. I've never seen the TV show but always figured it was done in California. I only figure that since most TV shows get moved there. Like I said, I've never seen it.

Orange County Choppers got started after the guy made some money with Orange County Iron Works. Both businesses are in lower New York not far from New York City. It's an area that had a lot of bikers and bike builders even back in the 60s. I used to drive over there to get parts for my British bikes and my old Indian. Back then, the hot spot was "Toms Cycle Shed" in Vails Gate, NY. I guess he never made it big, like this other guy.

None of this stuff is in "upstate New York" like the many stories stay. When you see "upstate" it usually mean the story is written by some jerk in New York City. To them, anything NOT in New York City is "upstate." I live in central New York and I'm a good 150 miles north of where Orange County Choppers got started.

They are in Orange County,NY.I have been to the place to look around.Nice facility and it is said the bikes aren't that good.I have no opinion myself.

I never heard of Dombrowskis, may have been befor my time. You mean Town of Florida near Amsterdam, in Montgomery County?

Did not the old man kick the boys out of the business. They probably would have time to go check out that milking equipment. LOL.
Seriously, I worked for a farm supply business like that once and it was a nightmare for those that did not belong to the family.

Used to be that working with cattle was good therapy for prisoners. That has all changed and now they have a basketball court on each floor. I'll say no more.

No, town of Flordia in Orange County, NY. It's in black-dirt onion farming area near Goshen, Sugar Loaf, Chester, etc. That's what the post is about - a guy looking at equipment in Orange County New York.

I now live near the "other" Florida in Montgomery county. I'm just down the road in Otsego Co. and the only good farm equipment dealer around is in Montgomery. L.C. Hand.
