Here it comes...

Looks like on radar our first real snow is only a few hours' away. 3 inches here in central Iowa tonight, another 5 with 40 mph wind on Tuesday. Brought up a load of wood for the shop stove, test ran the generator, dropped a bale in the ring for the horses, put the big bucket on the 706 and gassed up the plow truck. And gassed up the sleds just in case. So I guess I'm ready as it gets.

Lots of folks my age cuss the winter but I still get a charge out of the first snow. Still like getting snowed in too, neighbors all get together and go from farm to farm checking on chores and testing the beer supply.

Yep is that were its coming from, you!!!!/ Were gonna get some "Weather" snow, rain sleet or some mix by Thursday here in Eastern NY. lol J

We're supposed to get hit right between the eyes with it here in mid Michigan starting Tuesday night. They're saying 1/2 to 1 1/2 tonight. Still debating whether or not to take a load of fat cattle to the stockyard tomorrow. Guess I'll wait and see how it looks in the morning.

We got 3"-4" yesterday here in Otsego County, NY. Town trucks plowed snow last night and this morning for the first time this year.

Yes, so did we here in Schenectady county, about 3 inches, they were out plowing and pounding down the salt, No wonder my trucks are all rusty.lol ;) j

Yup, they why I drive junkers in the winter. I can't stomach the idea of buying a clean vehicle just to watch it get eaten away by salt.

I am positive that more then half of all my vehicle repairs are due to rust, not wear.

To add insult to injury . . . last summer we took a ride to some forest we own up in Jefferson County (Tug Hill Plateau). Nice August day. Took my summer-only rust-free 94 Ford diesel F250 up there. What happens? We get stuck behind a saltwater truck spraying saltwater brine all over the dirt roads. Can't win.

What part are you in? Eastern or Western, or down low? I know my "troll" house just below the Mac bridge got about 4" yesterday (Presque Isle Co.).

Jay in Ny - We got about 2 inches in columbia county, town of Kinderhook, the Berksires and the Taconic's helped sheild us from more of it. See what happen's later this week.

Hey Jay!! Duanesburg, home of Duanesburg Diner! one of my favorite places to eat. we almost always stop there when we go to MacFaddens.

Ya, just to keep the dust down, right? Id rather have the dust! Around here they use calcium chloride the same way on dirt roads.j

Thats great you stop there, yes thats were I live. Who would have thought that little diner would be knowen on here. LOL Ye going to Macfaddens on the 12th.?

If you were asking me, I'm in Ontonagon. Western UP on the shores of lake superior just up the road from the porcupine mountains.

I went to S Dakota one winter (2005) to get a tractor. Got caught in a storm, terrible road conditions and they put this calcium chloride out in NE....my trailer and tool boxes on my flatbed truck were rust covered when I got home. I can see how that stuff eats rims on loaded tires and cars up your way....BAD STUFF.

More from Otsego County, NY. The local TV station WKTV in Utica reported Hartwick as the "winner" in the amount of snow received in the region stating 2 3/4". I wonder if a woman was measuring LOL. Snowplows were out Saturday night, Sunday morning, salt and sand. I'm ready for Thursday's storm.
As far as the summer salt and calcium chloride used for dust control, our town used blacktop sealer this year on the dirt roads, not the old splattery oil. The suerintendent said it cost less than calcium, worked great, and has lasted all summer.

I'm not sure yet. I would like to. I need to call Jeff and see if he has found the part I'm looking for. I probably will have to cajole him a little to go look. If they have it that will be extra incentive to go on the twelfth.
