ok got the manifold drilled out, fitted the muffler but it sits way too low and will interfere with the hood. hole in hood will not clear the large diameter of the muffler. looks like there must be some type of extension on the allis b to raise the muffler up and out of the hood.

If my memory serves me correctly the original muffler on Allis B and C fit under the hood with jst a small part protruding above the hood. I think you are putting on a muffler that a CA Allis used. CA Allis had a muffler which the muffler part was outside the hood. Probably just need a small extension.

Click on the following link which takes you to Allis forum and show original B muffler.

i see the link now, the original muffler went under the hood. looks like some fabricating gonna be going on.

glennster,
Looks like you need a double digit Oliver to get the "hang" of this! Looking good.

There are 2 different upright mufflers available. The one with the longer bottom section probably is a retrofit for early models. I have always been under the impression that when the CA came out that the B also was changed to the style with the short bottom section. All of the ones I have and have worked on from around 1951 and later had the big hole in the hood that appears to be factory. If not someone done a very nice job cutting them. There is also another style brace that came out before the one you have that bolted to 2 of the valve cover bolts and had a clamp that attached it to the body of the muffler. Unfortunately I do not have one on site now to take a picture of it. I have also learned over the years that it is impossible to be 100% sure of anything when it comes to tractors and what the factory done at times. Lee
