Since we have finished picking corn we have still been busy catching up on things.

Did my yearly service on the mix mill. Ground one load of feed and now it has a flat tire and it seems the wheel bearings may not be as good as I thought so back to the shop for it.

Went and got another new bale ring at farm king. There has got to be a better place to get bale rings but it sure is handy to just go grab one there quick.

We did miss the big blizzard that affected most of the midwest.

These pics are pretty much what we ended up with. Just enough to be a hassle. We did have some near zero temps and a very windy cold day so for the most part no one was harvesting for a couple days.

DSCN4040.jpg

This is what the corn looked like after the snow. Most guys tried to run and ended up with their combines full of ice and snow and back in the shed.

DSCN4062.jpg

After a couple days the snow came out of the corn, there was a skiff on the frozen ground and the guys that had their combines thawed out we back to running and we went to harvest the FFA chapters test plot.

I cant tell you how many times I have help the FFA chapter get their crop in or out. I started helping them about 1986 and I am more than happy to still lend a hand when they need it. Here come cliff and logan into the parking lot.

The combine and cart rolling past the concession stand. Popcorn anyone?

A shot out of the tractor looking at the football field, stands and crows nest. Farmingtons sports teams are called the farmers. This is where the Farmington Farmers play football on friday nights. The Farmers are much better known for the basketball teams they have had in recent years. How appropriate the Farmers play football next to a corn field and with a big red barn in the background!

The combine with Farmingtons water towers in the background, parts of the school and if you look close enough the golden arches of McDonalds!

With the harvest completed for the FFA chapter friday afternoon it was time to turn our attention to weaning the calves.

Everything went as planned which is unusual. Of course nick was there to help as well as logan. Today there are lots of sad faces and lots of bawling.

Have you seen my mom?

DSCN2238-1.jpg

This calf is looking at me like he knows its my fault!

DSCN2252-1.jpg

A sad looking bunch for sure.

The 4020 with the heathouser on it and ready for another winter. Bought the canopy from a neighbor who had one sitting around. Maybe it will keep some rain and snow off.

DSCN2259-1.jpg

Somewhere under all that mud is a 4 wheeler. I cant recall what days it was but one of the recent cold days when we went to use it, no go, it was froze up! Is that a sign it needs cleaned up?

Lots of corn still needs harvested around here. Cold, wind, snow, rain, freezing rain and frozen combines have been the order of the day and made harvest progress very slow for those still running. Meanwhile, we will try to get things cleaned up and put away before the weather gets any worse. Sure is good to be done.

Thanks for the update - been wondering what you were up to. Glad you got done and I do recognize the Farmington background!
Still some corn out and one field of beans near Peoria - bet thats not good as they were a field that got hit by the "early" frost.
Have a Merry Christmas and Much Better 2010!
Jim
PS: We'll have to hook up for dinner/lunch some Saturday at the Warehouse.

Great winter picts. allways good to see how another part of the country is doing. Like the idea of the canopy on the 4020. I really want to get that done on our 2940, makes a good fit up with a heat houser which is going on this week.

nice pics , helped a friend get his corn done the day before the snow, only problem was we had to make more trips to town hauling than what was planned. Oh well, too much isn"t a bad problem.
The white faced calf with the black eyes is nice looking, bet he will grow up to some nice steaks.

better get the 4-wheeler washed though.

Nice pics, looks like the 4 wheeler needs some clean up. Dad is down to somewhere around 450 acres, we filled everything up this afternoon. Tell your mom to keep fairview open so we can run. Just kidding.

Brother and I went to Nebraska over thanksgiving in '97 and got a JD "A" pulling tractor. Cooked the transmission in the van at Farmington on the way back. Laid over there to get a new tranny installed. Nice folks there, great country, Enjoyed the pics.

You guys dont miss a thing do ya!
Yea, its a 210 for my 45. It is just a hand full of serial numbers off of the one my grandad bought brand new back in 1963.
Looked and looked and I couldnt find a picture of it on the combine but this is the combine it goes with.

Bill, have you ever bought gates or feeders from Dave Mckinney? He is out of Kentucky and gets up our way every couple of months. I would have to dig to get his number if you wish. Don't know for sure when he will show up but he has good stuff, honest guy and good to deal with and its delivered for same or little cheaper than TSC or Farm king. Maybe its in my head but his stuff seems to last better.

Thanks for the photos, I'm in the deep South (LA), it's 63 deg F, and is so humnid, the carport is covered with condensate, been raining off and on for days.
