Fertilizer prices 2010 UP / DOWN ???

You are doing better than us here in the NorthEast but that always has been the case on price. Back in the early fall they were all expecting the price to go down considerably but now they are saying it will stay near level. I'm guessing that commodities will have to dip by 1/4 to 1/3 to force fertilizer down very far. One of the fertilizer dealers told me several years ago that as producers of fertilizer and chemicals consolidate the price will be structured to maximize their profits off the top 50% of farmers. Those that can not keep up with that pricing will have to seriously re-think their business (farming).

Howdy,

I went ahead and pre-ordered my fert. for next year when I ordered seed a few weeks ago. Our guy said it was gonna jump next year from what he heard at the last meeting he went to. We'll see. I can't imagine that after the huge jump we saw year before last that they'll let it all go back down to reasonable levels again. God bless.

Just prepaid for next spring. U-32 was 236.00 per ton Anhydrous ammonia is 518.00 delivered. I'm 25 miles north of st.louis,mo. Last year I paid 658.00 for anhydrous. These sir charges on seed is running up the cost & you don't get the extra yeild if the river get's it. Why did my family land here? Cheap ground I guess. Gene

(quoted from post at 10:11:14 12/29/09) 360 for Urea , 405 DAP , 460Potash locally at JRT.jeffersonville IN. .. It is anyones Guess which way those prices will be in April... What are your prices in your area ? and what do you think ?
he fertilizer distributor here said that much of the price is tied to natural gas that is used to make the nitrogen part, so I would expect some tracking with gas cost if he knows about which he speaks.

I was quoted 390 (I think) for AN about a month ago for spring delivery. He didn't expect AN to go any lower. Other blend prices were still MUCH higher but he expected them to fall somewhere in the 500 range by mid winter. I think they're also still sitting on quite a bunch of ~1200 blend price stuff that just didn't sell last year, so the new pricing is probably going to take that into account here...

From what I have read on other forums is that wholesale prices are going down like a rock right now. The problem we all have as farmers is the whole buy every thing retail, sell every thing wholesale, and pay ship'n both ways. Prices were still very high here last spring. Of the three suppliers around here two got burnt buy drinking their own koolaid in 98 when every one said it's going up, up and never come'n down so they filled up to the rim on the high dollar 98 stuff, then was stuck with it when the prices droped. The third bought late after the fall and only had to undersell to other two joints. From what I have seen and heard all the local joints are pretty empty right now and should be able to sell at the lower rates as wholesale prices fall.
