Hand crank my W4

Every day I hand crank my 1953 W4 to mix corn silage and haylage together for the dairy cows. Old begger started on 2nd turn this morn and it was well below zero F ,but I could hardly steer the grease in the gear box must be a little thick.

I have three 400s. I tried to hand crank them. They are way to tough for me to spin a complete revolution, but the parts tractor will start. The others need to have the shafts lubricated better than they are now.

There isn't any way I could hand crank them in the winter on a day like today. -25 this morning, back down to -19 now.

Those old W-4's start good off the crank, ours will start almost half a turn on the crank where as the 6 volt will just lug away gaining speed to fire....

I hand crank my Case LA now and then just to show those kids how its done. You would be amazed at how many big kids can't turn it over. she will start right up on the 2nd or 3rd crank.
403 CID 4 cylinder.

Surprizing how much more spark the engine gets when the starter isn't used.
