Way OT- Country Wedding Ideas

Hello,

As some of you may recall, October 29, 2009 was a big day for me!! To my surprise, my boyfriend had everything planned out that evening to ask me to marry him! You guys were the first to know, even before me! I did say yes! We told our immediate family on Saturday, October 31, 2009. It was not much of a surprise, as many expected it after three-and-a-half years of dating. It also did not help that someone leaked some confidential info to his Mom before we could break the news. Oh well, we still had fun the night our parents got together. We are getting married June 11, 2011. It will be here before we know it!! So, here I am tonight, asking your advice. He is a farmer and loves IH tractors. I am a country girl, and my family is very active in the Oliver club and the WHO tractor ride. I was wondering if anyone knew any farm-related marriage vows that would make our day a little more unique. Something else unique may include something about being a farmer’s wife, something with tractors, etc. A farm-related wedding prayer would also be neat. Following the wedding, we are going to ride away on tractors. His IH 806 will lead, and alternate Oliver and IH for the rest of the wedding party. The IH is for him, and the Oliver tractors are representing the Glade family. I know he has gotten very valuable advice and information from those of you on this site in the past, and we would value your input now.

CONGRADULATIONS! I would like to add something. to marry this nice farmer you better admit that an I.H. tractor is by far superior to an oliver tractor. this way you will be starting off on the right foot. I would hate to see you have a fight about it later.

My son used the 1949 JD B tractor he restored in high school, along with an ancient hay wagon for the "get-away" car from the church to the reception. Kept it hidden in plane sight across the road from the church in the farm yard of a friend/farmer. Threw a picnic table on wagon and whole wedding party got the ride of a lifetime.

Well I dont have any answers to your questions. But you are welcome to look at our wedding related photos on my on line photo album. Once you are at the photo album head sown about to the bottom and you will find them.

We got married in our barn 16 years ago, and it seems to have worked okay. We're still married and still like each other.

We had originally planned a wedding behind our house in the field, middle of November. Then, the day of the wedding we had a freak hail and snow storm. So, moved everybody in the barn and got married right there with animals sounds for background noise.

We never regretted it. And it hardly cost anything. In fact, my wife's parents handed us $10,000 that they had been saving for many years for their "daughter's wedding day." Since we didn't blow it, they gave us the cash and we bought 50 acres of remote woods. Still own it. To the converse, my wife's little sister spent over $20,000 on her wedding and now has nothing to show for it but a bunch of photos and video tapes.

Several of the men I worked with had daughters that had big weddings. Both had filed for a divorce several years later. Hal

Hehe now don't be making her start lieing, they haven't even got married yet! LOL!!! Everyone knows Olivers are better.... :)

Seriously, congrads!!! Trust me you don't have to spend alot on a wedding to make it work out. Heck my sister just got married a few months ago on horses. Her and her husband both enjoy riding and they had a cowboy wedding. It was probably one of the nicest I have seen too. Out behind their house,They has straw bales for everyone to sit on,Hamburgers and hot dogs at the reception and some killer chili that night and the thro' down!

Congratulations!!!

My wife is a musician, she plays at several weddings every year and really doesn't like the outdoor ones. The bride always dreams the weather will be perfect but that's the rare exception; heat, cold, wind, rain, yellow jackets, etc.

You sound like you have the right attitude already. Plan your day so you'll have a nice wedding no matter what, and consider the tractor ride a fun bonus if it works out. Always remember that the point is to get married and share the joy with friends and family.

mrs 730 and i were married at a state park on our 55 th birthday that's right we share the same the birthday day and year.
we had the weeding ceremony than a cookout picnic.
some people didn't like very well when i said those that have cows to milk and chores to do line up first.
we had a picture tractor frosted on the wedding cake.

Congratulations---And may you both be HAPPY!
I would just like to say that my son and his fiance were married on the bride's father's farm. Her father is a BIG time antique tractor collector with many restored tractors of all brands. All these tractors were placed around the wedding sight.
It was a beautiful "outdoor" wedding with many guest. They didn't ride off on a tractor but your post brings back plesent mimeries.

When my cousin got married in the fall of 1985 the Wedding party went from the Church to the Reception in a hay wagon pulled by a Farmall H it was nice, over hill and dale in New York state taking in the Fall colors but the hills got bigger the further we went and on the downhill side the hot carbon started to fly out the exhaust and it only seemed to land on the women in the wagon I thought it was hilarious but they failed to see the humor in it.

Back in the 1820s here in Indiana there was a tradition of the "race for the bottle" after the wedding/reception usually held at the new couples place. What they did was to set a bottle of rum or whiskey on top of a fence post at the new couples house/cabin and line up for the gun to go off. The wedding party would either run on foot or on horseback and who ever grabbed the bottle first , the party would continue at that persons place leaving the new couple to "enjoy the evening with some "privacy". My guess is the tradition faded because of bottles getting broken and leaving the party dry. Not many liquor stores around back then although some farmers had stills.
