piston sleeves

Individual pistons or sleeves are available for MANY applications, but the price per part is usually astronomical compared to kit price.

Yeah your probally right .... there going in a 350 farmall the pistons look fine, bought a new set of rings for it also the problem occured when honing the cylinders thats when i noticed some pitting in the 2 and 3 cylinders so was hoping to maybe just find some sleeves to replace in it

Brad, before reusing the pistons check to see how snugly the new rings fit in the grooves. They should not be able to move up and down at all. I have seen where the grooves had worn to pretty much double the original width.

yeah the rings set tight inside the grooves i think the tractor at one point had been overhauled it sat in a field for years and became locked up i got it and started messing with and got it running it was smoking real bad just recived head back from shop where they reworked it and know im dealing with some pitting inside the cylinder wall from where the pistons where sittin for so many years im guessing

L.A. Sleeve has sleeves for almost anything.
The price will not break you. If the pits are interlocking with one another, I would put sleeves in it. If they are like pepper on an egg I would use them as is.
Make sure the ring grooves are clean to the bottom, So the new rings can be compressed into them. Jim

I've bought just sleeves and rings many times {not pistons). Also just did an engine where I reused the sleeves but had to buy new pistons. There wasn't a huge difference in prices, between buying piece by piece, or buying a sleeve-piston-ring set. I'm sure that's going to vary by engine make, though.

I just bought some pistons on this site for a Continental Z-134. Buying all the parts in the kit, piece by piece, costs an extra $29.

$232 sleeve kit - with all four pistons, ring set, seals, and four sleeves

sleeves - $26 each
pistons = $27 each
rings $41 for a complete four cylinder set
sleeve seals - $2 per sleeve

By the way, you don't have to replace pistons when the only problem is loose ring grooves. Hastings sells repair shims that I've used many times. Top ring side clearance should not exceed .002" -.005" depending on the engine

yeah i agree when a complete kit is that cheap, just trying to get by on spending the least amount as possible i think the complete kit for the 350 farmall was from 320 to $600

My email shows up in the modern forum, but for some reason it does not show up in classic, unless I actually post in classic.
