Kabota or Johndeere

I posted last year on a 7700ford tractor that I had bought. Turns out it is going to cost more to fix than I want to put into it. I have about decided to try to buy a new one, I am pulling a 10' jd 1018 bushhog. It has the 1100rpm pto. What size JD would handle it, I looked at the 5065M JD. Haven't been to a kobota place yet. What size kobota would handle a 10' heavy bushog? It has to have the 1100 speed pto. The JD's are salty but I figure I will always be able to get parts for it and sombody to work on it if need be. I don't know a lot about kobota. Have heard they are lighter weight than JD but crank better in cold weather. I have just got started looking and plan to do my homework. I might be better off to go with a new tractor and an 8' bushog and sell tractor and bushog both.

I just went do that road I decided on the McCormick cx90 1 was the perkins engine and the rest of the tractor was the case IH design mostly. it has a power shift in 4 gears and is in my opinion a better view and layout than the JD the JD engines are made in Mexico and as with most of the parts. some of them are asembled in georgia the M is the better model. I did not look at the kubota I hear they are ok but I am a diehard IH fan the case IH in that 80hp size are newholland feiot. I am happy with the Mccormick so far I think if I was to buy a larger tractor I would revisit all 3 brands and compare again just did not like the 5095 gear set up and cab view. price was comparable with each I did price the kubota but did not look at. and the 60 month 0% was the real attraction to the whole new machine thing. and I never bought a new one before.

I Bought a 4320 Deere last year. It's a hawse for it's size. I pull a jd mx-8 mower with no problems . Put 755 hours mowing/bushhogging and dirt work commercially since new with no problems. Kubota seems too light in the same horspower range. The Kubota dealer couldn't touch the price of the Deere in my area. Almost $1000.00 more for the same tractor.

I have never bought a new one either. The perkins diesel suppose to be a very good motor. I hadn't thought much on the case tractors. It will all come down to price vs what I can get for my money. I have never owned a cab tractor or a 4wd. I can live without either of those options.4wd is something else to fix if it tears up and would cost a lot too.

You need to look at other models, and of course the Warranty, 0% interest financing too.

The Deere, CaseNH, CaseIH, Massey Ferg. are all models to look at.

Go to the Deere.com website, lots and lots of info to help pick the best of what you need.

I bought a new Compact diesel Deere 2 years ago, it will start in sub-zero temps. I have the Hydro-static drive transmission. I am very happy with it, it now has 100 hours on it.
I primarily use my new Deere for my 900 foot long driveway, plus grass cutting and light landscaping.

I think I would look at which dealer I like better rather then what color paint I like better. I believe all the major make of tractors are built well and comparable but there is a world of difference from dealer to dealer.

In the world of JD, the 5M is the high rent district. 5E or 5E Limited is mid-spec, and the 5D series is bargain basement. My advice, you don't want a JD 5 cylinder engine(non-sleeve, bored-in-block motor), like in the 5065M. They are built cheaply. Stick with the tried and true 4045 4cyl. motor(wet sleeve). If you are in cold climates, they offer air intake heaters and/or coolant heater to assist with starting. The smallest tractor to my knowledge with 1000 pto available is the 5083E Limited. They have cab, 4WD, wet clutch, hyd. reverser, heat, AC, and 4 cyl. motor standard. Absolutely the best bang for the buck from Deere these days. The 5M is way expensive, and the 5D's are built like something from the stone age. Disclaimer: I work for a dealer, but as a mechanic, not a salesmen, I'm relating in-field experience here.

Tried to post but since I am a 28 year KUBOTA dealer post would,n go thru. Send me an e-mail
and I will discuss your needs. jm.

I will look into the 5083E, the salesman didn't mention that model, I said I needed one with the 540/1000 pto. The m series is all he showed me. None of the tractors are built as heavy as they used to be. Thanks

I don't need a cab tractor with all the bells and whistles. The 5083E only comes with a cab and it is way out of my price range. I may have to sell everything I have bushhog and all and start over again. Can I change the yoke on my bushhog to 540. I don't think so but why not?

Based on the specs the John Deere is a better tractor but it is a basic tractor. The M40 series Kubota is a very reliable tractor that is very nice to operate. Not quite the weight of the John Deere and likely not quite the price.
I can tell you from experience that a M7040 is a joy to operate. You sit up good and high and have a very good view of the loader or just infront of you. It rides very smooth at all speeds. The only thing I have found wrong with it is the shifting. It can be really hard to shift the gears and the hi-lo can be very very hard to shift. The hyd shuttle is very smooth. The digital readout of ground speed and pto is another nice feature is also nice. It does lack gears but the gears it has are all well placed.
Kubota has a name for their engines but in this case John Deere went cheap. The jd is slower spinning than the Kubota but the engine is also smaller. The kubota also has less electronics with much less to go wrong. I'm not necessarily biased of Kubota here but have no experience with John Deere. Likely a good tractor but never been on one. Would have to drive it and use it to know what I prefer.
