Are massey ferguson tractors any good? I mostly hear about deere, kubota, and ford new holland. I see a few of the older tractors around but what about the new ones?

DMS:

Massey Ferguson has been around for many many years and is highly regarded by many.

I dont know about the new ones but my dad bought a 135 brand new around 1970 It is a great tractor my brother still uses it. Never had any problems with it.

I personally think the older masseys were great tractors.Like a lot of other companies, they had their mistakes. They had steering and brake issues with some models, transmissions hanging in gear on some but they also had the Perkins engine which I feel is hard to beat. Like the other companies they are now a world tractor, with different engines and different manufacturers making parts, who knows, time will tell.

Your right, the new tractors are like new cars, to many gadgets and stuff that you just don't need. They keep putting more stuff on them to make them cost more. But they are built cheaper and the dealers make a killing on them. Just like car dealers. They try to make a living off one sell. The problem with used stuff is you don't know what you got till you get it home and get to using it. That is what happened to the with the 7700 ford I bought.

To be honest,if I was shopping for a new tractor, that would be the first one I'd look at. This from a guy who's only new tractor ever was a Deere. As many companies as have been merged into the new Massey, with all the patents that have been combined,I've got an idea they are probably a super tractor. Bet the dealer can tell you where they're made too, even if it's not in the US,unlike the other companies who would have to look up every model seperately to find out.

I have a Massey 165 and a 255, both are used quite a lot during the summer for haying (that's all I do anymore) & can tell you, they are as good as any other tractor on the market for my money. I've been told that the reason the Deere's are green is so they can hide in the weeds from the red ones. L.O.L. (just jokeing about that)

yeah we have a 1080 and it works great. They are nice tracors. They are now i believe the worlds biggest manufacturer. (correct me if im wrong)

MF have been the best selling tractors in the world since 1962. They have won many innovation awards in Europe. MF sales account for over 50% of all Agco sales. The original 35 is the most copied tractor in the world. Every other make of tractor uses the Ferguson designed 3 pt. hitch. No one has came up with anything better than the MF system or something that is so industry wide. Dave

MF has been spouting that crap for a number of years and the only thing is they have to say WORLD to make it half way honest.Agco will tell you, they only rank forth or fifth in the United States. They have nich markets and nothing more.As far as the other posting on the Agco lineup change,I thing it was a big big mistake because the Orange line was outselling the MF line 5-10 to 1 in most parts of the US

There is more to farming than the US. Evidently MF is favored the majority of farmers world wide. Keeping in mind a lot of those world wide sales are to regions that are "3rd world" which require a simple, durable tractor. You don't see the highly complicated electronics so much in the regions where parts and service are hard to come by.

I would buy a new MF as they compare against Deere or Case IH / NH

I have a MF 175 and a 285 In my book they would be hard to beat. I also have a Long 445 and a Allis 200, But the Masseys are used by far the most... Rickey

We have a 35, a 135, a 175 and an 1105. All but the 1105 have been on this farm over 40 years and used hard. I'm sure other brands are just as good, but we can't complain at all about the service from any of them.

World wide MF is number one in sales by a good margin. How is that only only half honest, when it's a fact? The US isn't the be-all end-all of the tractor market. JD is the biggest in N. America but world wide they are 4th or 5th.

My point was their bragging of it and making these newbes thing WOW I can get parts and service on these and then they can't.I have a 59 MF 35 that is almost impossible to get the right parts for because they made 3 tractors alike, but diff.in 59-60 and the parts are mixed on them.
