did agco plummet and go down the toilet? i heard agco will stop making tractors and the only ones that will still be built are the masseys. (they will cut off agco, agco-allis, challenger and idk all the other ones).

Is this true???

Geez,I hope they aren't down the toilet! I own stock! I think it is true though that they're phasing out all BUT Massey and Challenger as brand names though. As far as Agco Allis, that went out the window when Agco White did didn't it? They just simply went to one with the Agco name.Sounds to me like that brand name and the orange paint is the only one being phased out eventually. I haven't heard what they plan to do with the European models,Fendt and Valtra. Hadn't heard that they'll drop those names.

The AGCO-Allis brand is still used in Argentina, you are correct that it disappeared in North America when AGCO-Allis and AGCO-White became AGCO in 2001.

true on the agco allis part. I wish they wouldnt have bought white in the first place. Im going to do some research on the subject and see what i can find.

I'm afraid if they hadn't,White would have been history a lot sooner. The whole White Motor to Texas Instrument to Allied Products thing probably would have been the end of the line if Agco hadn't kept the brand name alive for as long as they did.

Yesterday, I heard that AGCO will stop marketing AGCO Allis tractors from my neighbor, a dyed-in-the-wool Allis man who should know. Massey will remain.

The only thing that is happening is AGCO is reducing brand labels to Massey Ferguson and Challenger ( and Gleanor on the combines) in North America. Last I knew AGCO was in pretty decent shape financially. The reduction in brand names will probably mean elimination of some dealers as now all dealers will have the same product line regardless of previous identities.

I've always said that it seems everything AGCO touches turns to manure...

I can't see them eliminating the Fendt name. That would give the Germans a reason to start world War III

How about Ag-Chem, one of the top 3 sprayer/floater manufacturers? Or Willmar? I really liked our 8103 Airflow with the Terra-shift, but support was horrible. It might have been Ziegler Implement's fault on service...

Does anybody know if there is any truth to the rumor that Ford was looking to acquire White about 1980? It would have made sense as Ford was already getting tillage and planting equipment from White. Would have filled Ford's need for high horsepower two wheel drive and four wheel drive tractors, also.

All I have heard is they are drop'n the orange Allis paint. No big deal they have all been the same for years, color don't matter. Not a real big Agco fan myself, after try'n to find parts for my grandmother's AC 185.

well agco is run by the allis chalmers guys and lets just say they might have been better off if they were ran by some other ppl. I never have been a fan of the orange agco's. They are about the ugliest tractor out there.

I think they are alive and well. They just had to many brands in tractors(paint colors), Challenger, Fendt, Massey, Valtra, Agco Allis. Agco tractors, ect. It is like car dealers getting rid of Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, Plymouth, Mercury and Edsel for that matter. They make great stuff I would have trouble living without, Gleaner, Hesston, Sunflower, White Planters, Farmhand and some others I can't think of. It just causes me pain that they chose MF Red not Praire Gold or Persian Orange to carry on the brand.

A few months ago some Deere hater was on here claiming Deere was about bankrupt. Because the US government guarantied some loans for customers.
Wonder where that poster is about now?

I do,in that I'm afraid we'll loose some dealers. My nearest Agco dealer was an Oliver/White dealer. They're kinda off in the middle of nowhere in what's become mostly a ghost town. About 3-4 miles off the state highway. There's another Agco dealer about a dozen miles beyond them that used to be an Allis dealer. They have a better location at the intersection of 2 state highways.Newer facilities too. It's another 25 miles or so added to the round trip and they don't know the Oliver and Whites like the closer dealer does. I'm sitting here with 7 green or silver tractors,so keeping the closer one is important to me. The old Oliver dealer has been handling Massey, while the former Allis dealer has stuck with the orange Agco tractors and Gleaner combines. That's kept them from steping on eachothers toes. But with just one line to sell,I'm real afraid of which one we'll loose.

I don't remember ever hearing that. I do know that Ford was about an hour away from aquiring Gleaner combines from the Baldwin Brothers when Allis Chalmers bought them out back in the day.

yeah. The AGCO's, Masseys and Whites (before they dropped them) were the same tractor just pick which color you want.

I've heard, in my Ag engineering circle, that AGCO is a tough company to work for.

I don't think I'd turn down a job though. Miss working in the equipment business since I left Gehl.
