Funny !! My wife was born in upstate NY on the Canadian border and attests to its' accuracy. She couldn't remember any late openings though. LOL

Seen the same e-mail with a few different places mentioned, but upstate NY certainly is one of them! As a side note, a sure way you can tell someone is from downstate NY is that they say they're from upstate NY--"upstate" is a term mainly used by people within spitting distance of NYC.

Well there's the NYC area, then "upstate NY" and then the lake-effect area of New York that gets the most snow in the USA east of the Rocky Mountains (I've got a place there on the Tug Hill Plateau). Mostly from Lake Ontario lake-effect storms that sometimes last a week and drop 12 feet of snow.

Chucky Shumer calls anthing on the other side of the George Washington Bridge "upstate" and any snow over 1/2" a blizzard.

I moved to NY for college, And its always snowing here mind you im a little bit west and north of albany (cobleskill) but its jsut always snowing, Most of the time it doesnt ammount much but it can be bright blue sky and still snowing ....i dont know how you northerners do it

Does it snow in July in NY? It does in California. In fact, I almost got stuck in a snowstorm in the middle of August in the White Mountain range.

We have a joke about Northern Maine, they have 10 months of winter and then 2 months of something that's not quite winter.

All in all we (Maine) have had a very mild, snowless winter.

I like snow so it's been a bit of a let down for me. Never understood why folks complain up and down about winter but live in the northeast, it's not like you didn't know it was coming!

Yes. They don't salt or sand the many miles of backroads there - to promote snowmobile travel. And in the summer, the place is over-run with four wheel ATVs.
