OT: The Huskey and the Squirrel

My Siberian Huskey, four years old, finally "caught" her first squirrel yesterday. We've never allowed her to be aggressive with a cat and the squirrels just tease her. She loves to play with other dogs and wanted to play with the few cats she has come across. Yesterday she mush have caught a squirrel napping and pounced on it. My wife thought she was digging at first. Then she said the squirrel managed to elude her by slipping into the lariope along the walk, ran up the tree and jumped onto the roof of the house. Then it sat there just fussing at the dog. She didn't have a scratch on her, and obviously, the squirrel was none the worse for wear. I'm glad the outcome was the way it was, but I wish I'd been there to see it. My wife was laughing so hard telling me about it that she had tears in her eyes.

Years ago, when I had my Husky, I was walking him when we came upon a dead, stiff squirrel in the street. Before I could pull him back away from it, he reached down, picked it up in his mouth and just walked with it. After about 15 or 20 feet, he simply laid it down and kept walking.

It was funny.

sometime last year, Barbara found Missy(some name for a husky, not my idea)at the patio door with a dead squirrel in her mouth. There was a little fresh blood on the squirrel's head, none on the dog. I got home a few minutes later. We found a little blood on the brick walk. The pattern indicated a hard impact. We think that the squirrel probably fell out of a tree and was killed by the impact. It's seldom that a squirrel does fall, but I have seen it happen before.

I`ve Gotta chime in here! I didn`t get to see it but my Dad did, we had a dog that was part german shep part collie, a perty good all around type hunting dog...rabbits, coons, ground hogs even, anyway he must`ve finnally met up w/a faster than usual squirrel. Dad said he thought Scrappy had got him but the squirrel must of played a little possum because the squirrel had him by the lip, dad said he went over to where the fight was & Scrap just looked up at dad & wimpered at him like "take this D%^& thing off"...wasn`t gonna happen, I think dad said he told him like "you wanted the fight". Anyway, he said he watched scrap using his front paws & everything to get that squirrel to let go of his lip....guess the squirrel was part snap`n turtle too!...LOL. But dad said he finnally got the thing off his lip & killed. He also said after scrap was done, there wasn`t nothing left but the tail & toenails!!!....lol, just thought I`d share that...

I was trying to shoot a squirrel out of a tree but I could never get a good line of sigh. The squirrel finally jumped out of the top of the tree and right into the jaws of my Golden Retriever. She snatched it while she was running and ran away with it without missing a step. If only I would have had a camera.Jim

My big ol white Shepard would distract the squirrels while my spaniel would come around from behind and nail em. I buried the remains of quite a few. they made a great team.
