Power steering not working right on International 424

I have an Internaional model 424 and I am having trouble with power steering. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. You can be going along and the power steering will just quit and you can't turn the wheels. When it does this the only way I can get it to work again for a short time is to keep turning the steering wheel to the right and it will finally have some resistance and start working again. Might work for 30 minutes or maybe just 5 minutes. Do these tractors have a power steering pump or is there some other method? I know the hydrulic fluid is what works the power steering. The front end loader and three point hitch work fine, just the steering problem. I hope someone can help me out on this. Thanks

I do not remember much about the 424 but I am sure that the power steering is operated by the hyd. pump. It sounds to me that you may have a priority valve sticking or possibly you are loosing your charge pressure via your regulator. Kind of a complex little system and prone to malfunctions, but are mostly related to using the incorrect oils or contamination such as water or oil.
